Smith was diagnosed with a moderate hamstring strain after exiting Friday's 5-1 win over the Dodgers and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season, MLB.com reports. After he was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday, Smith is eligible to return for the Giants' final five games of the regular season, but the team is expecting him to need at least two weeks to recover from the hamstring strain. The Giants are planning to call up Bryce Eldridge from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of Monday's game in Arizona, and he'll likely step in for Smith in the strong side of a platoon at first base or designated hitter with the right-handed-hitting Wilmer Flores.

The Giants placed Smith on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right hamstring strain. Smith injured himself while doing the splits to catch a throw from Matt Chapman during Friday's contest, and it will now cause him to miss at least 10 days while on the injured list. Rafael Devers will start at first base Saturday against Los Angeles and figures to do so more often until Smith returns. Meanwhile, Jerar Encarnacion (hamstring) will come off the IL to claim the open spot on the active roster.

Smith was removed from Friday's game against the Dodgers with a right thigh injury, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Smith suffered the injury while extending to catch a throw from Matt Chapman in the fourth inning. It remains to be seen whether Smith's injury will force him to miss any additional time, but if that proves to be the case, Wilmer Flores would be in line to receive more starts at first base.

Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The left-handed-hitting Smith started in each of the Giants' last five games while the team went up against right-handed starting pitchers, but he'll bow out of the lineup for the series finale with southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez on the bump for Arizona. Smith's absence from the starting nine clears the way for Wilmer Flores to fill in at first base.

Smith went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 11-5 win over the Diamondbacks. Smith's blast tied the game at 4-4 in the third inning. The first baseman has hit safely in his last nine games, going 13-for-37 (.351) with two homers and 11 RBI during the streak. That surge has him up to a .291/.341/.427 slash line with five long balls, 33 RBI, 26 runs scored, 12 doubles and two stolen bases over 220 plate appearances this season in a strong-side platoon role.
