Leone announced his retirement from professional baseball last week, Scott Eisberg of WCIV in Charleston reports. Leone's 2024 season ended when he was diagnosed with a UCL sprain in his right elbow. It's not clear whether he underwent surgery, but either way the 33-year-old has decided against pitching again after he recovers. Leone appeared in parts of 11 major-league seasons for nine different teams, finishing with a 3.94 ERA and 444:192 K:BB over 429 innings.

The White Sox diagnosed Leone with a UCL sprain in his right elbow and placed him on the 60-day injured list Friday. Leone was lifted from Wednesday's game with soreness in his right elbow and further testing revealed he suffered a UCL sprain. Instead of attempting to rush him back during the closing weeks of a lost season, the White Sox opted to place Leone on the 60-day injured list, ending his 2024 campaign. The 32-year-old appeared in 23 games for Chicago, logging a 6.63 ERA and 17:14 K:BB across 19.0 innings. Matt Foster (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Leone was removed from Wednesday's game against the Yankees due to right elbow soreness, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Leone was only able to get through one-third of an inning before his elbow forced him out of the game, during which he gave up two earned runs on two hits and two walks. He'll head in for further evaluation Thursday, at which point the White Sox will have a better idea of how long the 32-year-old will be sidelined.

The White Sox reinstated Leone (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Monday. Leone had been on the shelf since May 20 due to right elbow inflammation, but he'll slot back into the White Sox bullpen after making four rehab appearances at Triple-A Charlotte. Before he was shut down with the injury, Leone compiled a 7.04 ERA in 15.1 innings. He'll likely have to settle for low-leverage work out of the bullpen now that he's healthy again.

Leone (elbow) is scheduled to make a rehab appearance with Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, MLB.com reports. Leone, sidelined since May 20, has been cleared to return to game action. It's unclear how long his rehab stint will last, but it appears he has the chance to return by late July or early August.
