Mancini opted out of his minor-league deal with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Mancini has spent the entire 2025 campaign to date with Arizona's Triple-A affiliate in Reno, slashing .308/.373/.522 with 16 homers, 62 RBI and 62 runs scored across 335 plate appearances. After an impressive start to the season in the minors, he'll now test his value in free agency and presumably look to sign with a club that can offer a clearer path to big-league playing time.

The Diamondbacks reassigned Mancini to minor-league camp Wednesday. The 33-year-old posted an impressive 1.121 OPS in 27 plate appearances in Cactus League play, but with Arizona already having Josh Naylor, Pavin Smith and Randal Grichuk (ankle) as options at first base or designated hitter, Mancini couldn't crack the Opening Day roster. Unless his minor-league contract contains an opt-out clause that enables him to pursue opportunities elsewhere, Mancini will likely begin the season at Triple-A Reno.

Mancini went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Saturday's spring game against the White Sox. The veteran signed an NRI deal with the Diamondbacks just prior to camp and has hit well, going 9-for-21 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI over 13 Cactus League games. Most of Mancini's appearances have come off the bench against lesser-quality pitching, signaling that's he's not likely to win an Opening Day roster spot. He told Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports that he does not intend to opt out of his minor-league contract if doesn't make the team's initial 26-man roster.

The Diamondbacks signed Mancini to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Mancini didn't play in 2024 after opting out of his minor-league deal with the Marlins, but he will now attempt to win a spot on Arizona's Opening Day roster. The Diamondbacks could use a right-handed bat to balance their lineup, but Mancini joins a crowd competing for bench spots either at corner outfield or first base. Slated to turn 33 in March, Mancini slashed only .234/.299/.336 with four home runs over 79 games for the Cubs in 2023.

Mancini is eyeing a return to the major leagues in 2025 after sitting out the 2024 season, Andy Kostka of the Baltimore Banner reports. Mancini opted out of his minor-league contract with the Marlins during spring training after being informed he wouldn't make the Opening Day roster and he never signed on with a new team. However, after a year off to recharge his battery, Mancini is aiming to play in 2025. Slated to turn 33 in March, Mancini slashed just .237/.313/.374 from 2022-23 and could have to settle for a minor-league contract.
