  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Back on active roster
    By RotoWire

The Mets activated Torrens (forearm) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Torrens needed only a minimum stay on the IL with a right forearm contusion. Francisco Alvarez (triceps) is back in the lineup Wednesday against the Padres after exiting Tuesday's 8-3 win, so Torrens will serve as the team's backup catcher.

  • Torrens (forearm) went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his first rehab game with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. Torrens also played seven innings at catcher in his first game action since he landed on the 10-day injured list in early September with a right forearm contusion. He could be activated when first eligible Wednesday, especially with Francisco Alvarez (triceps) now banged up.

  • The Mets placed Torrens on the 10-day injured list Monday due to a right forearm contusion. According to Laura Albanese of Newsday, Torrens said he suffered the injury while blocking a ball behind the plate in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Reds, and while he has avoided a fracture, he's sore enough that the Mets decide to make a roster move. Hayden Senger was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to replace Torrens as the Mets' backup catcher.

  • Torrens is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers. Torrens will get a break for Wednesday's matinee after he started behind the plate in the first two games of the series. Hayden Senger will handle catching duties for the Mets in the finale.

  • Torrens went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Monday's win over the Tigers. It's the second three-hit performance for Torrens in his last five starts as he takes advantage of the latest IL stint for Francisco Alvarez (thumb/finger). Over nine games since Alvarez went down in mid-August, Torrens is batting .310 (9-for-26) with three doubles, two homers, six runs and 10 RBI. Alvarez is pushing to return quickly but isn't going to be 100 percent healthy until the offseason, so Torrens figures to retain a significant workload behind the plate through September.
