The offseason departure of Anthony Santander has created an opening in the top half of Baltimore's lineup for other members of the club to fill, with Mountcastle being one of the candidates to do so in 2025. While it's unknown where Mountcastle will slot in most days, the 28-year-old slugger is slated to serve as the Orioles' primary first baseman and is making an early case to hit in the heart of the order more often than not.

  The Orioles and Mountcastle avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $6.787 million contract Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Mountcastle had been in his second year of arbitration eligibility. The first baseman fell off to just 13 home runs over 124 regular-season games with the Orioles in 2024, but he should be among the beneficiaries of the left-field wall at Camden Yards being moved in this season.

  Mountcastle isn't in Baltimore's lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees. Mountcastle has recorded a hit in both games he's played in since returning from the injured list Tuesday.   The Orioles reinstated Mountcastle (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. The 27-year-old has been sidelined for the past month due to a sprained left wrist, but he's ready to rejoin Baltimore after a three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk. Mountcastle was in the midst of a 3-for-22 slump prior to the injury, and he also struggled during the rehab stint with just one hit and six strikeouts in 11 at-bats. He is not in Tuesday's lineup versus the Yankees, as Ryan O'Hearn will be at first base.
