Stevenson signed a contract with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of Nippon Professional Baseball on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Stevenson, 29, is a career .243/.316/.352 hitter over parts of six seasons in the majors. He can play all three outfield spots and undoubtedly got a nice bump in pay to head overseas.

Stevenson elected free agency Monday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Stevenson had been outrighted off the Twins' 40-man roster and he's decided to pursue a contract elsewhere rather then accept that assignment. The 29-year-old outfielder slashed just .189/.250/.216 across 40 plate appearances with Minnesota in 2023 and will likely have to settle for a minor-league contract this winter.

The Twins selected Stevenson's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Stevenson earned a promotion by putting up a .916 OPS with 16 homers and 44 steals for St. Paul. The 29-year-old can back up all three outfield spots and is returning to the majors for the first time since 2021.

Stevenson signed a minor-league contract Thursday with the Twins. Stevenson did not appear at the MLB level in 2022, but he did post encouraging numbers -- including 39 stolen bases -- in 135 games with the Triple-A affiliate of the Nationals. The 28-year-old can operate as organizational outfield depth for the Twins in 2023.
