Slater is absent from the lineup Tuesday in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Royals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Slater was in the lineup more often than not versus lefties down the stretch for the Orioles, but he will begin Tuesday's contest on the bench against southpaw Cole Ragans. Ragans does have reverse splits, with lefties producing a .723 OPS off him this season and righties just a .594 OPS. Colton Cowser, Cedric Mullins and Anthony Santander will form Baltimore's outfield trio Tuesday.

Slater went 3-for-4 with an RBI double, a two-RBI single and two runs scored during Monday's 13-3 win over the White Sox. Slater contributed to the Orioles' offensive bonanza, delivering a pair of RBI hits for his first three-hit game with Baltimore. Since being traded at the end of July, Slater has gone 13-for-44 (.295) with six RBI and seven runs scored across 19 games. The outfielder has a .618 OPS on the year.

Slater went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Mets. Slater was responsible for the Orioles' first hit off Sean Manaea, a two-run, opposite-field homer in the sixth inning that tied the game 2-2. It's Slater's second home run of the year and his first in 12 games with Baltimore. The 31-year-old outfielder has been limited to the short side of a platoon, though he's batted leadoff in the Orioles' last four games against left-handed starters. Overall, Slater's slashing .221/.338/.290 with 17 runs scored, 15 RBI and three stolen bases across 160 plate appearances between Baltimore, Cincinnati and San Francisco this season.

Slater recorded a stolen base as a pinch runner in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Red Sox. Slater has gone 6-for-15 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored over nine contests with the Orioles, but his theft Sunday was his first with his new team. He's had limited chance to make an impact as a short-side platoon player, and it's unlikely he serves as anything more than a fourth or fifth outfielder. For the year, he has a .211/.331/.260 slash line with one home run, three steals, 13 RBI and 16 runs scored over 151 plate appearances between the Giants, Reds and Orioles.

The Orioles acquired Slater and infielder Livan Soto from the Reds on Tuesday in exchange for cash, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Earlier this month, Slater was traded from the Giants to the Reds, and he now finds himself with a third organization in the aftermath of the trade deadline. The righty-hitting Slater is known for his ability to hit lefties, but he's batting just .175 in those matchups this season. He's unlikely to see significant playing time for Baltimore.
