The Rangers non-tendered Sborz on Friday. Sborz started the 2025 season on the 60-day injured list after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in November of 2024. He was able to begin a rehab stint in July but was unable to progress enough in his recovery to see major-league action. Sborz will now enter free agency and will look to sign with a team in need of right-handed depth out of the bullpen.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that Sborz (shoulder) has been shut down for the remainder of the season, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. He'll go the entire 2025 season without pitching in the majors, with Bochy noting that the decision not to activate Sborz from the 60-day injured list stems from the right-hander not being able to consistently reach his expected velocity coming off the shoulder surgery he underwent last November. With a full offseason to rest and ramp up, Sborz should be a full participant at the start of spring training.

Sborz (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Monday, MLB.com reports. Sborz, currently on the 60-day injured list, made a string of appearances on a rehab assignment before a brief "deloading" program, which is a planned period of reduced training. The right-hander continues to try to ramp up to game velocity.

The Rangers placed Sborz (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Monday. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Luke Jackson, whom the club signed to a one-year deal. Sborz underwent surgery on his right shoulder in mid-November and had already been expected to miss the first couple of months of the 2025 season, so his move to the 60-day IL won't alter his timeline for a return.

Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said Monday that Sborz has been examined by multiple shoulder experts but has not yet made a decision on a course of action, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Sborz dealt with a right shoulder problem off and on throughout the 2024 campaign and ended the season on the injured list with what the team simply referred to as shoulder fatigue. It would seem as though surgery could be one possibility Sborz is considering, although Young didn't divulge specifics in regards to what injury exactly the reliever is dealing with. With Kirby Yates, David Robertson and Jose Leclerc all becoming free agents, the health of Sborz is paramount.
