  • The Twins outrighted Castillo to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Castillo had been removed from the 40-man roster earlier this week following a brief stint with the big club. He could have elected free agency but instead has accepted the outright assignment and will remain in the organization.

  • Twins' Diego A. Castillo: Loses roster spot
    By RotoWire

The Twins designated Castillo for assignment Wednesday. He'll give up his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to right-hander Brock Stewart (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list prior to Wednesday's game against the Phillies. After getting a call-up from Triple-A St. Paul on July 14, Castillo appeared in just four games while going 2-for-6 with a double, two walks, three runs and two RBI.

  • The Twins selected Castillo's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. He'll start at third base and bat seventh in the Twins' series finale in San Francisco. Castillo joined the Twins' 26-man active roster as replacement for infielder Jose Miranda, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a low back strain. Over his 283 plate appearances with St. Paul this season, Castillo slashed a respectable .269/.375/.399 with five home runs and seven stolen bases while seeing action at all four infield spots as well as in right field. He'll likely see most of his starts against left-handed pitchers like the Giants' Blake Snell while he's up with the big club.

  • Twins' Diego Castillo: Promotion pending
    By RotoWire

The Twins are expected to call up Castillo from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Minnesota is currently dealing with several injuries in the infield and Castillo is expected to take the 26-man roster spot of the IL-bound Jose Miranda (back). Castillo logged just one big-league at-bat last season and is slashing .269/.375/.399 with five homers and seven stolen bases across 283 games with St. Paul. The 26-year-old should see work at third base and could mix in at second base and shortstop if needed. The Twins will need to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Castillo.

  • Twins' Diego Castillo: Traded to Minnesota
    By RotoWire

The Twins acquired Castillo from the Orioles on Friday in exchange for cash consideration, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Castillo will provide some quality infield organizational depth with Royce Lewis (quad) out, as he's capable of playing multiple infield positions as well as left field. The 26-year-old has now been in six different organizations since December, spending much of the offseason bouncing around via waivers. He will not be on the Twins' 40-man roster after being outrighted by the Orioles back in February.
