Friedl started in center field and went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Monday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers. After offseason rumblings about Matt McLain moving to center field, Cincinnati manager Terry Francona stated McLain would play second base, which puts Friedl atop the depth chart in center field. Friedl was beset by injury during 2024, playing 85 games with a .690 OPS, but he should reclaim a role as the team's primary center fielder and leadoff batter this coming season.

Friedl batted leadoff and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Guardians. Friedl broke up a no-hitter with a bunt to lead off the seventh inning and scored Cincinnati's first run. He was moved back to leadoff -- his first time since June 23 -- as Jonathan India was held out after clearing concussion protocol. He's struggled of late, going 4-for-24 (.167) over the last eight games. It's assumed Friedl will drop back to the middle of the order once India's ready to return.

Friedl is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta. Atlanta has ace lefty Chris Sale on the bump, so the left-handed-hitting Friedl will be given a breather. Blake Dunn is handling center field in the matinee.

Friedl went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and an additional run scored in Friday's 8-4 win over the Twins. Friedl put the Reds up early with a second-inning home run, his 12th long ball of the season. He later brought in a run on a bunt single and another run on a traditional single. Friedl's made an impact this month with 11 RBI over 12 games in September.

Over nine games in September, Friedl has gone 7-for-30 (.233) with eight RBI and two steals.
