The Guardians outrighted Florial to Triple-A Columbus on Friday after he cleared waivers. Florial was designated for assignment last week after slashing just .173/.264/.367 with a 36.9 percent strikeout rate in his first 36 games with Cleveland. While no longer on the 40-man roster, he will remain in the organization as outfield depth.

Cleveland designated Florial for assignment Friday, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. With Steven Kwan (hamstring) returning from the 10-day injured list, Florial will be the one removed to open up a spot on the 26-man roster. The 26-year-old outfielder is slashing .173/.264/.367 with 11 RBI across 36 games with Cleveland this year, and his next landing spot will be at Triple-A Columbus if he clears the waiver process.

Florial will start in left field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Mets. Though the lefty-hitting Florial is starting against a southpaw (Jose Quintana), the Guardians have seemingly pulled the plug on the 26-year-old being a regular part of the lineup versus right-handed pitching. Florial started just once while Cleveland opposed righty starters in each of the previous five contests.

Florial will take a seat for a second straight game after he went 1-for-10 with a double, a walk, three strikeouts and two runs scored over the team's three-game series with the Rangers. David Fry will draw the start in left field and bat fifth against Minnesota.

Florial will start in left field and bat leadoff in Monday's game against the Tigers. After going 1-for-4 with a stolen base while serving as the Guardians' leadoff man and designated hitter in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Angels, Florial will get another turn atop the order Monday. He'll also be drawing the start in left field in place of Steven Kwan, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a hamstring strain that will likely keep him sidelined for four weeks. Even before Kwan's injury, the lefty-hitting Florial had already been moving into a regular spot in the lineup against right-handed pitching, but Kwan's absence should give Florial a clearer path to occupying a prominent spot in the lineup.
