  Falter (8-7) earned the win Wednesday over Miami, allowing two hits and three walks over 7.1 scoreless innings. He struck out five. Falter was excellent, holding the Marlins to just a pair of singles. The scoreless effort marked Falter's first quality start since June 18 -- he hadn't gone more than 5.2 innings in any of his previous 10 outings, posting a 5.79 ERA in that span. The left-hander's ERA now sits at 4.20 on the season with a 1.27 WHIP and 89:39 K:BB across 128.2 innings. Falter's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Cardinals in his next outing.

• Pirates' Bailey Falter: Settles down for seventh win

  Falter (7-7) earned the win Thursday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings against the Nationals. He struck out three. Falter's outing did not begin well as he allowed three runs in the first, capped by a two-run homer by Andres Chaparro. Falter then settled down, allowing no more runs through his final four innings while the anemic Pirates' offense scored six to put him in position for his seventh win. Falter progressively improved throughout his start, retiring the Nationals in order for the first time in the fifth to close out his outing on a high note. Despite setting a new career-high with his seventh win, the nine batters to reach base marked the fifth straight start Falter has allowed at least eight baserunners while pitching fewer than six innings, holding a 6.85 ERA and 1.82 WHIP during that stretch. His next start is currently slated to take place in Pittsburgh against the Marlins.

• Pirates' Bailey Falter: Stumbles in no-decision

  Falter did not factor into the decision in Friday's 10-8 loss to Cleveland, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk over four innings. He struck out two. The 27-year-old struggled out the gate, allowing a two-RBI double to Josh Naylor in the first inning to open the game's scoring. After allowing two more runs in the fourth inning, Pirates manager Derek Shelton had seen enough and didn't allow Falter out for the fifth, even though he'd tossed only 59 pitches. The Pittsburgh southpaw has pitched to 4.41 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 81:34 K:BB across 116.1 innings in 23 starts this season. He currently lines up to make his next outing at home against the Nationals.

  Falter did not factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 win against the Reds, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings. Falter yielded nine hard-hit balls while generating just six swinging strikes on 79 pitches. The southpaw has not lost any of his six outings since returning from the injured list, but he also hasn't logged a quality start in that span. On the season, he owns a 4.25 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 79:33 K:BB across 112.1 innings and lines up for a road matchup with the Guardians next week.

• Pirates' Bailey Falter: Ends up with no-decision Sunday

  Falter did not factor into the decision in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers. He allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while recording two strikeouts over four innings. All four runs against Falter were put up in the first two innings with the Dodgers plating a pair with two outs in the first and second. Falter was able to hold things scoreless over the next two frames, but his day was done after he needed 93 pitches to get through four. Sunday was only the third time this season he's walked three or more batters, and he's now struck out fewer than five batters in in six of his last seven starts while posting just one quality start over that span. For the year, Falter owns a 4.07 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 67:31 K:BB in 101.2 innings. He lines up to face the Mariners over the weekend his next time on the mound.
