• Giants' Luis Matos: Back in majors

  Matos was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday. Matos is not in Sunday's lineup, but he'll replace Mark Canha (thumb sprain) as a righty-hitting bench option. Matos is just 22 years old, but he was below league average at Triple-A (91 wRC+) and the majors (62 wRC+) this season.

  The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday. Matos has gone 2-for-10 with a home run and two runs scored across four games since rejoining the Giants on Sept. 3. Rather than keeping six outfielders on their big-league roster, San Francisco will now send him back to Triple-A in favor of infielder Donovan Walton, who was recalled from Sacramento in a corresponding move.

• Giants' Luis Matos: Goes deep Sunday

  Matos went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Padres. Matos was the latter part of back-to-back home runs against Joe Musgrove in the fifth and picked up his first hit in 10 plate appearances since being called back up Sept. 3. He's struck out multiple times in all three appearances he's made since his return to the majors and won't have a shot at a bigger role unless injuries in front of him arise. For the year, Matos is slashing .211/.235/.340 with five homers, 25 RBI, 13 runs and a 5:24 BB:K in 153 plate appearances.

• Giants' Luis Matos: Rejoins big club

  The Giants recalled Matos from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. The 22-year-old was optioned to Sacramento in late July but is back with the Giants for the final month of the season. Matos has played in 40 games across his two previous stints in the majors this season and has a .217/.238/.333 slash line with four homers in 143 plate appearances. The right-handed bat of Matos could work as a short-side platoon partner of Grant McCray in center field.

  The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Matos will end up as the odd man out of the Giants' outfield after the team claimed Derek Hill off waivers from Texas on Tuesday. Matos slashed .208/.222/.340 with four RBI in 54 plate appearances after his promotion from Triple-A on June 22, and he will be a likely candidate to return to San Francisco should the team's outfield depth be tested later in the season.
