The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. The move makes room on the Giants' roster for top hitting prospect Bryce Eldridge, who will make his major-league debut against the Diamondbacks on Monday. Matos has seen his playing time dip slightly in September, and in seven games since Sept. 2 he has gone 3-for-21 (.143) with three runs and one RBI.

Matos will take a seat for the third time in San Francisco's last five games after going 2-for-13 to begin the month of September. Drew Gilbert will pick up a start in right field as a result and bat eighth.

Matos has gone 2-for-12 through three contests in September and will hit the bench Sunday for the second time in the last three games. Drew Gilbert is receiving another start in right field for the Giants in the series finale.

Matos is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Matos will get a well-deserved breather for the series opener in Colorado, after he had started in all 10 of the Giants' games since his Aug. 21 call-up from Triple-A Sacramento. Drew Gilbert will get the nod in right field Monday, but Matos appears to be locked into a near-everyday role after slashing .432/.450/.811 with three home runs and two steals following his promotion.
