The Yankees reassigned Hermosillo to minor-league camp Wednesday. Even with Harrison Bader (oblique) on track to open the season on the injured list, Hermosillo didn't make enough of an impression while attending camp as a non-roster invitee to convince the Yankees he was worthy of bringing aboard as a depth option in center field to begin the campaign. The 28-year-old, who slashed .115/.250/.148 across 73 plate appearances with the Cubs in 2022, is expected to report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Hermosillo signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Friday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Hermosillo has just a .550 OPS over parts of five big-league seasons. He'll turn 28 in January and is likely to begin 2023 in the minors.

Hermosillo cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports. Hermosillo was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Tuesday, but he'll remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. The 27-year-old struggled in the majors this year, hitting just .115 with two doubles, seven runs, four RBI and a stolen base over 31 games.

Hermosillo was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Tuesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports. Hermosillo was slashing .152/.243/.182 in September, and he will now be placed on waivers as the Cubs shuffle the roster to make room for Willson Contreras (ankle) and Seiya Suzuki (paternity).

Hermosillo went 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in a 3-2 win Thursday in Pittsburgh. Starting in center field for the seventh time in the Cubs' last eight games, Hermosillo recorded his first multi-hit performance of the season. He singled and scored in the second and had an RBI single and a stolen base in the seventh. The 27-year-old is 5-for-27 with three walks since returning from a quad injury Sept. 8. He's likely to continue getting opportunities for the Cubs as the season winds down, especially until Seiya Suzuki (paternity) returns from the restricted list.
