Rivas entered Monday's loss to the Athletics as a pinch runner in the top of the eighth inning and recorded a stolen base. Rivas swiped third on Dylan Moore's swinging strikeout, but he was left stranded 90 feet away from home plate when Mitch Haniger also went down on strikes to close out the frame. Rivas was out of the starting nine for the fourth time in the five games since J.P. Crawford's activation from the injured list, and although the latter is struggling at the plate, Rivas figures to continue seeing only intermittent playing time for the foreseeable future.

Rivas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays. Rivas had started each of the last seven games at shortstop while batting .348 and getting on base at a .400 clip, but his playing time is likely to dwindle after top shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. At least for the time being, Rivas will stick around as a backup middle infielder, but he could be a candidate to return to Triple-A Tacoma if the Mariners want to open up regular at-bats for him.

Rivas went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, a walk and two runs in a win over the Pirates on Sunday. Rivas once again provided useful contributions out of the bottom of the order, and he maximized both of his trips on the basepaths by eventually crossing the plate each time. The rookie infielder, who continues to see regular playing time at shortstop in the absence of J.P. Crawford (finger), has reached safely in six of his last seven games, a span in which he owns a .400 OBP thanks in part to a 15.4 percent walk rate.

Rivas went 1-for-3 with two RBI, two stolen bases and one run scored in Friday's 6-0 win over the Mets. Rivas delivered a two-run single in the seventh inning to give the Mariners some breathing room. The rookie infielder hasn't gotten much playing time since getting called up in late July, going 3-for-17 with three RBI, two steals and three runs scored over 10 contests. He's batting .217 over 23 plate appearances this year, though the speedster has 24 steals over 63 games at Triple-A Tacoma. Rivas appears to be a short-side platoon option at shortstop when Dylan Moore shifts over to third base.

The Mariners recalled Rivas from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. With J.P. Crawford (hand) headed for the injured list, Rivas will rejoin the big-league squad in order to replenish the Mariners' infield depth. The 26-year-old has gone 2-for-6 during his previous stints in the majors this season and has slashed .296/.441/.424 through 266 plate appearances in the minors.
