Moreno, who was activated off the 10-day injured list Sunday, made his first start since rejoining the team -- he was used as a pinch hitter Sunday but did not play defensively. He missed nearly all of August and the first half of September with an adductor strain. The Diamondbacks optioned rookie backstop Adrian Del Castillo to Triple-A Reno on Monday, signaling that Moreno is ready to take on near-everyday duty.

Moreno (adductor) will catch five innings at the Diamondbacks' camp facility at Salt River Fields on Saturday, Arizona Sports reports. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Friday the team will assess how Moreno responds following the activity. The manager said it's possible Moreno could return for the series in Colorado next week that begins Monday.

Moreno (adductor) hit in a batting cage Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Tuesday marks the first time Moreno has swung a bat since he landed on the injured list Aug. 6 with a left adductor strain. The 24-year-old backstop still isn't expected to return to the big-league lineup until well into September, but seeing him resume activity is certainly a positive sign.
