Cantillo is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Rays in Cleveland. After returning from Triple-A Columbus on Monday and striking out 10 over seven innings of one-run ball in a win over the White Sox, Cantillo has earned himself a second straight turn through the Cleveland rotation. The left-handed rookie should hold down a rotation spot until the Guardians get Alex Cobb (finger) back from the 15-day injured list.

Cantillo was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday. Cantillo's demotion was expected after he served as the 27th man in Monday's doubleheader versus the Royals. He's pitched to a 7.71 ERA over 18.2 innings in the majors this year. With an off day Thursday, the Guardians may be able to get by with a four-man rotation until Alex Cobb (fingernail) is ready to return, which means Cantillo could be staying at Triple-A for a while.

The Guardians recalled Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus prior to Monday's doubleheader with the Royals. Cantillo is expected to pitch in the first game of the twin bill, likely serving as a bulk reliever once opening pitcher Nick Sandlin exits the contest after working an inning or two. The Guardians had previously deployed Cantillo as a traditional starter in each of his prior four outings with the big club, but the lefty submitted an 8.47 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 17 innings across those contests. Cantillo is expected to be returned to Columbus following the twin bill.
