Koenig will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Saturday's game against the Mets, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Koenig worked as an opener frequently during the first half of the season, though Saturday will be the first time he's done so since returning from the injured list in July. The 30-year-old southpaw owns a 3.60 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 10 innings since the start of September, and he'll likely only remain in the game for an inning or two before turning things over to Tobias Myers, who is expected to pitch in bulk relief.

Koenig threw a perfect inning to earn a save against Cleveland on Sunday. Koenig needed just 12 pitches (seven strikes) to finish off the 2-0 win. It was his first career MLB save, and he dropped his season ERA to 2.09. Koenig owns a 12:4 K:BB and a 3.86 ERA since returning from the injured list July 21. Both Devin Williams and Joel Payamps pitched in three of the four previous games and did not appear in Sunday's win.

The Brewers reinstated Koenig (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Reliever Joel Kuhnel was designated for assignment to make room in the bullpen and on the 26-man roster for Koenig, who landed on the IL on June 29 with left elbow tendinitis. The 30-year-old southpaw had been a dependable relief arm for Milwaukee prior to being deactivated, turning in a 1.66 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB over 38 innings.

Koenig (elbow) will make a rehab appearance with Triple-A Nashville on Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Koenig was placed on the 15-day injured list June 29 with left forearm tendinitis, but he looks to be progressing quickly after tossing a bullpen session Thursday and a multi-inning simulated game Sunday. The Brewers will reassess Koenig's status after Friday's rehab appearance, but he may need just the one outing with Nashville before returning to the big-league bullpen.

An MRI on Koenig's left elbow showed swelling but no structural damage, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Koenig will remain sidelined through the All-Star break, but he looks to have avoided a major injury. The left-hander has been a revelation out of the Brewers' bullpen in 2024, collecting a 1.66 ERA and 36:11 K:BB over 38 innings.
