Koenig allowed a hit and struck out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Angels. Abner Uribe was deployed against the heart of the Angels' order in the eighth inning, leaving Koenig to pick up the save in the ninth. This was Koenig's seventh straight scoreless outing, and he's posted a 14:1 K:BB while earning two saves and a hold in that span. He's pitched well as a high-leverage option this year, posting a 3.10 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 64:20 K:BB with two saves and 26 holds over 61 innings.

Koenig secured the save in a 6-3 win over the Phillies on Wednesday, throwing a clean ninth inning with one strikeout. Koenig got the call to earn his first save of the season Wednesday. With the possibility of having to face superstar lefties Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper in the frame, the southpaw likely received the nod over righty Abner Uribe for matchup-related reasons. Closer Trevor Megill (elbow) is targeting a return by mid-September, so Koenig will likely revert back to a setup role before long. Koenig has a decent 3.32 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 57 innings while recording 25 holds this year.

Koenig will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Saturday's game against the Mets, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Koenig worked as an opener frequently during the first half of the season, though Saturday will be the first time he's done so since returning from the injured list in July. The 30-year-old southpaw owns a 3.60 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 10 innings since the start of September, and he'll likely only remain in the game for an inning or two before turning things over to Tobias Myers, who is expected to pitch in bulk relief.

Koenig threw a perfect inning to earn a save against Cleveland on Sunday. Koenig needed just 12 pitches (seven strikes) to finish off the 2-0 win. It was his first career MLB save, and he dropped his season ERA to 2.09. Koenig owns a 12:4 K:BB and a 3.86 ERA since returning from the injured list July 21. Both Devin Williams and Joel Payamps pitched in three of the four previous games and did not appear in Sunday's win.

The Brewers reinstated Koenig (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Reliever Joel Kuhnel was designated for assignment to make room in the bullpen and on the 26-man roster for Koenig, who landed on the IL on June 29 with left elbow tendinitis. The 30-year-old southpaw had been a dependable relief arm for Milwaukee prior to being deactivated, turning in a 1.66 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB over 38 innings.
