  Hurter (4-3) worked around a hit to toss 1.1 scoreless innings of relief and earn the win Thursday against the Guardians. He struck out two. Detroit starter Troy Melton only covered 3.2 innings before Hurter came on and worked through the fifth in a critical game that saw the Tigers tie the Guardians atop the AL Central. The lefty logged his 12th game without allowing an earned run in his last 13 appearances, and he now has a sparkling 2.47 ERA for the season. Hurter has also struck out 66 batters in 62 innings this year, making him one of the top weapons in Detroit's bullpen for the second straight season.

Hurter missed time at the end of August due to a back injury, but he's since returned to health and will now get a chance to help the major-league team down the stretch of the regular season. He's performed well in his last 10 appearances for Detroit, posting a 1.20 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 15.0 innings.

  Hurter (back) has allowed four earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out two batters over 3.2 innings in three appearances for Triple-A Toledo since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Sept. 6. Hurter missed a little under two weeks due to the back issue, so he didn't require a rehab assignment at a lower-level affiliate before he made his return to the Toledo bullpen. The Tigers demoted Hurter to Triple-A on Aug. 17 in what appeared to mostly be a roster-management decision, as the southpaw had turned in a 2.45 ERA with 62 punchouts over 58.2 innings with the big club on the season. However, with Hurter having since picked up the back injury and not yet pitching effectively for Toledo since his return from the IL, the Tigers haven't been motivated to call him back up.

  Hurter (back) could start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo this weekend, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Hurter was sent down to Triple-A on Aug. 17 and was placed on the injured list with back soreness without making an appearance for Toledo. The 26-year-old has posted a 2.45 ERA in 58.2 innings with the Tigers this season, and once healthy, he's expected to rejoin the big-league bullpen for the tail end of the regular season.

  Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that Hurter was placed on Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list Sunday due to lower back soreness, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Hurter hasn't pitched since being sent down to Triple-A Toledo on Aug. 17, which is now understood to be the result of a back issue. The left-hander has posted a 2.45 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 62 strikeouts over 58.2 innings in 38 appearances with the Tigers this season. Hurter is still likely to be a part of Detroit's major-league plans in September, so the team will take a cautious approach with him while he manages the back injury.
