  • Locklear will undergo surgeries to repair his left labrum and a torn ligament in his left elbow Oct. 16, Alex D'Agostino of SI.com reports. Locklear's season ended in early September due to inflammation in his elbow, and now that he's received his diagnosis following a round of imaging, he will officially have to undergo multiple operations. It's unclear how long it will take for the 24-year-old first baseman to recover, but he is expected to return at some point during the 2026 campaign. A more accurate timeline may emerge after he goes under the knife.

  • Locklear (elbow) will miss the remainder of the season, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports. Left elbow inflammation sent Locklear to the injured list Monday, and it seems the Diamondbacks have already decided to keep him shut down for the rest of the season. The 24-year-old first baseman is slated for further imaging to determine the extent of his injury, and there's a chance he may go under the knife to address the issue. He'll finish 2025 with a .175/.267/.262 slash line through 116 MLB plate appearances alongside three home runs, six RBI, 11 runs scored and three stolen bases. With Locklear sidelined, Ildemaro Vargas is the favorite to take over as Arizona's first baseman for the rest of the year.

  • Locklear was placed on the 10-day injured list with left elbow inflammation Monday. Locklear was set to be absent from the lineup Monday against the Giants, and it is now understood to be the result of a left elbow issue. The first baseman will now be sidelined until at least Sept. 19, and it's possible that he is going to be forced to miss the rest of the season. In a corresponding move, infielder Tim Tawa was called up from Triple-A Reno on Monday.

  • Locklear is not in the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Giants. Locklear had made 10 straight starts at first base after Pavin Smith (quadriceps) was lost for the season, but he's just 5-for-33 with 14 strikeouts over that stretch. Ildemaro Vargas will handle first base for the Diamondbacks in Monday's series opener.

  • Locklear started at first base and went 0-for-4 in Friday's 3-0 win over the Dodgers. The news that Pavin Smith (quadriceps) landed on the 10-day injured list Friday opens the door for Locklear to see more playing time. The righty-hitting first baseman was in Friday's starting nine against a left-hander (Blake Snell), which is normal, and manager Torey Lovullo told Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports that Locklear's role will expand for him to face certain right-handers as well. Utility infielder Ildemaro Vargas, a switch hitter, may also play against righties.
