The White Sox optioned Nastrini to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday. The right-hander worked as a bulk reliever Monday against the Guardians and delivered his best outing of the campaign with 3.1 scoreless innings, but he'll still lose his place on the MLB roster. Nastrini hasn't been effective in his nine big-league appearances (eight starts) this season and has a 7.07 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 26:36 K:BB in 35.2 innings.

Interim manager Grady Sizemore said Saturday that Nastrini will be available in relief Monday in what's expected to be a bullpen day in the White Sox's series opener versus the Guardians, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Sizemore hasn't officially pulled the plug on Nastrini as the fifth member of the rotation, but the rookie right-hander will look to turn in better results in relief after posting a 7.79 ERA and 24:32 K:BB in 32.1 innings through his first eight big-league starts. Jared Shuster is slated to open the contest and has worked at least four innings over four of his 37 appearances this season between the majors and Triple-A, so Nastrini could end up piggybacking Shuster rather than serving as a true bulk reliever Monday.

Nastrini (0-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Orioles, allowing seven runs (four earned) on four hits and six walks over 1.2 innings. He struck out two. After allowing just two runs over his last two starts (10.1 innings), Nastrini fell back to earth in Baltimore in an ugly outing. Command continues to be an issue for the rookie right-hander -- Nastrini's now carrying an 8.9 BB/9 through his first 32.1 innings. Overall, his ERA is up to 7.79 with a 1.95 WHIP and 24:32 K:BB through eight starts with the White Sox. If Chicago elects to give Nastrini another turn in the rotation, he'll line up for a home matchup early next week against the Guardians.

Nastrini is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Orioles at Camden Yards, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Unsurprisingly, Nastrini will be handed a second turn through the White Sox rotation after he delivered his first career quality start Thursday against the Rangers following his promotion from Triple-A Charlotte. Though he limited Texas to just one run over six innings in a losing effort, Nastrini's overall numbers through seven starts in the big leagues this season (7.04 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 22:26 K:BB in 30.2 innings) don't inspire much confidence in his fantasy prospects moving forward.

Nastrini (0-6) allowed one run on three hits and a walk over six innings Thursday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Rangers. Nastrini had the best start of his young career Thursday but still came away with a hard-luck loss against the Rangers. Nastrini pitched six innings for the first time this season, but he now has six losses in seven career starts. The 24-year-old has allowed three hits or less in five of his seven starts but has struggled with his control. Nastrini had more walks than innings pitched coming into Thursday's game, and the single walk Thursday was the first time he hasn't issued multiple free passes.
