• Cardinals' JoJo Romero: Picks up another save

  Romero earned a save against the Athletics on Wednesday, allowing two hits while striking out one batter over 1.2 scoreless innings. Romero entered with one out in the top of the eighth frame when St. Louis led by two runs. He allowed a single to the first batter he faced before retiring the next two hitters. Romero then returned for the ninth and gave up a leadoff single, but that was quickly wiped out on a double play. Romero subsequently wrapped things up to finish with his seventh save of the season, four of which have been longer than an inning in length. With Riley O'Brien (shoulder) currently on the shelf, Romero is the clear top option for save chances for the Cardinals.

• Cardinals' JoJo Romero: Nails down save No. 6

  Romero struck out one in a clean ninth inning for the save Tuesday against the Athletics. Romero recorded save No. 6 for the year, and each of those have come in the aftermath of the Ryan Helsley trade. With Riley O'Brien (shoulder) being day-to-day, Romero looks to be St. Louis' go-to weapon in the ninth inning for the time being. Romero had a 6.10 ERA through April 30, but he's posted a 1.12 ERA over his last 40.1 innings since the start of May to bring his ERA to a career-best 2.13 for the season.

• Cardinals' JoJo Romero: Collects fifth save Thursday

  Romero allowed one hit and no walks with no strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning for the save Thursday against Pittsburgh. Romero picked up his fifth save of the season, and each of which have come following the trade of Ryan Helsley. Riley O'Brien worked a clean eighth inning for a hold, and Romero should continue sharing ninth-inning work with O'Brien based on matchups to finish out the campaign. Romero owns a 2.25 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 45:22 K:BB over 48 innings in 2025.

• Cardinals' JoJo Romero: Goes two innings for save

  Romero allowed a hit and struck out three over two scoreless innings to earn the save in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Rays. Romero was brought in for the eighth inning and threw 15 pitches in that frame. He stayed in for the ninth and added 11 more pitches to secure his fourth save of the season. It's encouraging usage for Romero, who had two losses, one blown save and two holds over hos previous four appearances, which made it look like his time as closer was over just weeks after it started. The lefty reliever has a 2.31 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 45:21 K:BB while adding 18 holds over 46.2 innings this season. Riley O'Brien has had a fairly stable August compared to Romero, which has pushed the Cardinals' late-inning situation into more of a committee approach.

• Cardinals' JoJo Romero: Shaky in four-out save

  Romero allowed three hits and a walk over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Cubs. Romero got out of a little trouble in the eighth inning, then created some more traffic on the basepaths before locking things down in the ninth. Since taking over as closer to begin August, Romero has allowed seven hits and three walks over 5.2 innings, but he's given up just one earned run in that span. He's at a 1.98 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 38:18 K:BB through 41 innings on the year while adding three saves and 16 holds. With the Cardinals at 60-59 following Sunday's game, Romero figures to be a decent speculative option for fantasy managers chasing saves as long as the team is still plausibly in the hunt for a wild-card spot.
