  • Davidson cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Davidson was claimed off waivers last month and signed a major-league contract with the Orioles last week, but he's now off the 40-man roster. The O's are doing some 40-man roster housecleaning ahead of the Rule 5 Draft protection deadline.

  • Davidson signed a one-year contract with the the Orioles on Wednesday. After Davidson was non-tendered by the Royals, the Orioles picked him up via a waiver claim and now have him under contract for 2024. The 27-year-old appeared in 38 games for the Angels and Royals in 2023, posting a 5.96 ERA across 51.1 innings. He'll provide bullpen depth for the O's.

  • Davidson was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Wednesday. It would appear the Royals didn't plan to tender Davidson a contract and instead tried to outright him, but the Orioles have scooped him up. The left-hander made 38 appearances (one start) between the Angels and Royals in 2023, collecting a 5.96 ERA and 46:19 K:BB over 51.1 innings. Davidson has plenty of past starting experience, but it's not clear at this point what role Baltimore has envisioned for him.

  • Davidson pitched to a 5.03 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB over 19.2 innings after he was traded from the Angels to the Royals. Davidson's season ERA stood at 5.96 across 51.1 innings. He made modest improvements with Kansas City, which included him earning two holds, but he rarely saw much high-leverage work. He was used primarily as a started in his 52 innings across 12 appearances in 2022, but he's likely ticketed for bullpen work going forward. Davidson was modestly unlucky this year -- his 4.07 FIP suggests he pitched a little better than the surface numbers show.

  • Davidson is listed as the Royals' probable starting pitcher Monday in Oakland and is expected to work as an opener in front of bulk reliever Alec Marsh. The Royals haven't clarified their pitching plans for the series opener, but Monday is Marsh's turn in the rotation and he worked behind an opening pitcher in his last outing Wednesday, so it stands to reason that the club will go that route again. Davidson made 11 starts between stops with Atlanta and Anaheim in 2022, but he's pitched exclusively in relief over 24 appearances with the Angels and Royals in 2023. Davidson hasn't covered more than four innings in any of those appearances and hasn't worked more than two innings since the beginning of June, so he's unlikely to stay in the game for more than once through the Athletics' batting order before giving way to Marsh.
