  • Charles Leblanc: Becomes free agent
    By RotoWire

Leblanc elected free agency Monday. The Angels booted Leblanc from their 40-man roster last week and because he had been outrighted before, he had the right to choose free agency and has done just that. Leblanc is a career .254/.330/.412 hitter over parts of two big-league seasons.

  • Leblanc was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. Leblanc spent a small portion of the second half of the season in the majors and did manage a pair of home runs with six RBI across 28 plate appearances. However, he also struck out at a 32.1 percent clip. Leblanc can stick in the Angels' organization or opt for free agency.

  • The Angels optioned Leblanc to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. Leblanc will end up as the Angels' roster casualty as Kevin Pillar (thumb) returns from the 10-day injured list. The 28-year-old Leblanc appeared in nine games after being recalled from the minors Sept. 1, going 3-for-15 with two homers, six RBI and five runs scored.

  • Leblanc went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Rangers. Leblanc provided the bulk of the Angels' scoring with his fourth-inning blast off Andrew Heaney. The homer was his second hit in five games with the Angels this season, though the infielder has maintained a decent .254/.379/.437 slash line over 98 games with Triple-A Salt Lake. Leblanc is unlikely to see much more than short-side platoon usage over the final three weeks of the season, and even then, he's not guaranteed to play against every opposing southpaw.

  • The Angels recalled Leblanc from Triple-A Salt Lake prior to Sunday's 3-2 win over the Mariners. He will join Jack Lopez and Michael Stefanic as utility options in the Angels infield, but it may take an injury or two for Leblanc to see steady playing time. Aside from a brief stint with the Halos in August, Leblanc had spent the entire season at Salt Lake, producing an .816 OPS over 414 plate appearances.
