• Brewers' Trevor Megill: Back in action Monday

  Megill will appear in Monday's Cactus League game versus the Rockies after pitching in minor-league games since mid-March, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Megill's last Cactus League outing came March 15, but his absence doesn't appear to be the result of the undisclosed injury he dealt with earlier in camp. He's expected to open the season as the Brewers' primary closer.

  Megill agreed to a one-year, $1.94 million contract with the Brewers on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The 31-year-old was in his first year of arbitration eligibility and should enter spring training as the favorite for saves after the Brewers traded closer Devin Williams to the Yankees last month. Megill tallied 21 saves and six holds with a 2.72 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 50:14 K:BB across a career-high 46.1 MLB innings during the 2024 regular season.

  Megill (0-3) took the extra-inning loss Wednesday versus the Cardinals, allowing four runs (three earned) on a hit and two walks over two-thirds of an inning. Megill got the last out of the ninth inning, but he loaded the bases with one out in the 10th and Nolan Arenado cashed in for a walk-off grand slam. This was Megill's first appearance since July 23 after he missed four weeks with a back injury. The right-hander has a 3.15 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 40:10 K:BB over 34.1 innings this season. He added 20 saves, two blown saves and three holds while functioning as the closer in the first half, but Devin Williams is in that role now, so Megill will likely fill a setup role.

• Brewers' Trevor Megill: Cleared for rehab assignment

  Megill (back) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Thursday. Megill has been sidelined for all of August with a lower-back injury but has been cleared for game action. The reliever leads the Brewers with 20 saves on the season, but he'll be used in a setup role upon his return from the 15-day injured list with Devin Williams now in the fold for Milwaukee.

  Megill (back) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session Monday, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports. According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Megill will head out on a rehab assignment if all goes well during Monday's throwing session. The right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list July 29 due to a lower-back strain and likely won't need more than one or two tune-up outings in the minors before rejoining the Milwaukee bullpen. Megill leads the Brewers with 20 saves on the season, but he'll likely have to settle for setup work moving forward after closer Devin Williams returned July 28 from a season-long stay on the IL.
