The Nationals and Gray (elbow) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.35 million contract Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Gray was limited to three rehab starts this season as he returned from UCL surgery and will receive the same salary he got in 2025. The right-hander is expected to be ready to go at the start of spring training, though he will likely face workload restrictions in 2026 after throwing a combined 35 innings over the previous two seasons.

Gray (elbow) has returned to the Nationals' spring training complex in Florida and will not pitch in the majors this season, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Gray made three rehab starts following July 2024 UCL surgery, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings with a 5:5 K:BB. The Nationals have decided that's enough for the right-hander, so Gray will begin his offseason work now rather than make a late-season return to the major-league club. Gray has a good chance to open the 2026 campaign in the Nationals' rotation, though he'll likely have workload restrictions in place after totaling just 29.1 innings over the last two seasons.

Gray (elbow) is scheduled to throw approximately three innings and 45 pitches in his next rehab start Friday with Triple-A Rochester, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Gray has already made two rehab starts as he works his way back from his July 2024 Tommy John surgery, which involved the insertion of an internal brace. After covering 1.2 innings and tossing 34 pitches in his most recent outing with Double-A Harrisburg this past Saturday, Gray will increase his workload as he moves on to Rochester for what will be his final rehab start with the minor-league season coming to a close this weekend. Assuming he makes it out of Friday's outing no worse for the wear, Gray could be reinstated from the 60-day injured list for the final week of the season, though he would likely be in line for just one abbreviated start or multi-inning relief appearance with Washington.

Gray (elbow) struck out two and scattered four hits and no walks over 1.2 scoreless innings in a rehab start with Double-A Harrisburg on Saturday. On the comeback trail following his July 24, 2024 Tommy John surgery with internal brace, Gray has now completed two rehab starts and has built up to 34 pitches. The right-hander doesn't have enough time left to get stretched out for a traditional starting role, but he looks like he'll have a chance to make it back from the 60-day injured list before the end of the season. The Nationals haven't indicated whether Gray will report to Triple-A Rochester to make one final start before the International League season comes to an end, or if he'll instead join the big club ahead of their series with the Mets during the upcoming weekend.

Gray (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wilmington on Sunday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Gray is slated to throw two innings or 35 pitches during Sunday's outing, his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery with an internal brace in July of 2024. Considering the lengthy layoff, Gray will require several rehab starts before being cleared to come off the injured list. Still, the 27-year-old has a chance to pitch for the Nationals before the 2025 season ends.
