Fry will have his right elbow examined by Dr. Keith Meister in Texas next week, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Fry had to exit a game back in late June due to right elbow inflammation. While he didn't require any additional time off, he made just one start at catcher and zero starts in the outfield after the injury. It's not yet clear whether he might need surgery, but more information on his status should be available following next week's exam. Fry slashed .263/.356/.448 with 14 home runs over 122 games during the regular season before adding an .869 OPS and two more homers during the playoffs for the Guardians.

Fry went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-3 win over the White Sox. Fry has slipped into a part-time role in September, going 2-for-10 over four games this month. He made an impact with an increasingly rare start, giving the Guardians a 3-0 lead with a third-inning homer Monday. While it's been a solid year for Fry overall -- he's at a .260/.358/.448 slash line through 372 plate appearances -- he hasn't been able to hang onto an everyday role for a division-leading club.

Fry went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Rangers. Fry's power has picked up in August -- he's hit five homers this month, giving him 13 for the year. That's about the only thing trending in the right direction for the 28-year-old, who has been losing playing time since he's hitting just .175 (10-for-57) across 19 games this month. Overall, Fry has a .265/.364/.454 slash line with 46 RBI, 40 runs scored, 14 doubles and four stolen bases over 102 contests.

Fry is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees. Fry is on the bench for a fourth straight matchup versus a right-handed pitcher (Gerrit Cole) and seems to have moved into a short-side platoon role while his bat has cooled down since the All-Star break. Jhonkensy Noel will occupy the designated-hitter spot Thursday, and he and Will Brennan should continue to get playing time against right-handers at Fry's expense.

Fry is absent from Sunday's lineup against Milwaukee. Fry will sit for the third time in four games, with Steven Kwan serving as the designated hitter for Sunday's contest. Since Aug. 1, Fry is slashing .163/.217/.442 with four home runs and seven RBI across 45 plate appearances.
