• Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Starting mound work in January

  Angels general manager Perry Minasian said Wednesday that Rodriguez (elbow) will begin throwing bullpen sessions in January and is expected to be ready for the start of spring training, Taylor Blake Ward of The Sporting Tribune reports. Acquired from the Orioles on Tuesday in exchange for Taylor Ward, Rodriguez missed all of the 2025 campaign due to multiple arm issues and eventually underwent a right elbow debridement to remove a bone spur in August. He had been slated to begin a throwing program in October and will progress to mound work in January. Staying healthy has been difficult for Rodriguez, but he's flashed big upside when on the bump and will carry a career 4.11 ERA and 259:78 K:BB over 238.2 regular-season frames into the 2026 season. Rodriguez is sure to have some kind of workload restrictions with his new club in 2026 following a lost season.

  Rodriguez (elbow) said Tuesday that he expects to be ready to throw bullpen sessions "in about a month-and-a-half to two months," Foul Territory TV reports. Rodriguez is scheduled to undergo right elbow debridement surgery early next week, and it's possible the timeline for his throwing program will change based on how the operation goes. However, it sounds like the right-hander should have a relatively normal offseason if everything goes as planned. Rodriguez will remain a health risk heading into the 2026 season after missing all of 2025 and most of the second half of 2024 with arm problems.

  GM Mike Elias said Wednesday that a medical plan for Rodriguez (elbow/lat) is being finalized, with surgery being a possibility, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Possible surgery is a worrying development for Rodriguez, though it's encouraging that the procedure would be to remove some bone rather than a UCL issue. The right-hander has been on the injured list all season due to elbow and lat injuries, and surgery would prevent him from pitching at all in 2025. However, Rodriguez should have enough time to get healthy for next spring.

Rodriguez was sent for imaging on the elbow more than a week ago, but a decision on his next steps haven't been made because the Orioles are being thorough in his evaluation. The right-hander has been shelved all season with lat and elbow issues and has been shut down since suffering a setback with his elbow earlier this month.

• Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Undergoing imaging on elbow

  Rodriguez (lat) is undergoing imaging on his right elbow after feeling discomfort earlier this month, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Rodriguez has been sidelined all season, first with an elbow problem and then with a right lat issue. It now appears that the elbow is the bigger concern, although more should be known once the test results are in. Rodriguez will remain shut down until late this week, at minimum. He has not pitched in a game setting since spring training, so it will take him a long time to be major-league ready even if he progresses without more setbacks from here on out.
