• Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Undergoes another surgery

  Mauricio underwent a cleanup procedure on his right knee Tuesday and will miss the rest of the season, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports. The 23-year-old prospect tore his ACL in winter ball and underwent an initial surgery in December, but Mauricio had to go back under the knife this week to remove some scar tissue, ending any chance he might have had of playing in 2024. The Mets expect him to be fully recovered in time for spring training next year. Mauricio made his big-league debut in 2023 after posting a .292/.346/.506 slash line for Triple-A Syracuse in 116 games, and assuming he is healthy next spring, he should be competing for a spot on the big-league roster and potentially even the starting job at second base.

  Mauricio (knee) was cleared to begin running and hitting in late May, MLB.com reports. Mauricio opened the season on the 60-day injured list after he tore the ACL in his right knee in December while playing in the Dominican Winter League. He underwent surgery in January and is facing a projected recovery timeline of 8-to-12 months, leaving the door open for the 23-year-old infielder to return from the IL in September. While Mets vice president of player development Andy Green said May 31 that "everything is progressing as it should" with regard to Mauricio's recovery, the organization won't have a clear idea on whether he'll be able to return from the IL in 2024 until later in the summer.
