The Yankees did not tender Effross a contract for 2026 on Friday, making him a free agent. Effross was filling a high-leverage role for the Cubs when he was acquired by the Yankees in 2022, but he was unable to stay healthy the next two seasons and spent most of 2025 at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The right-hander gave up 10 earned run over 11 big-league appearances last year and also struggled to a 6.67 ERA over 29.2 innings at Triple-A.

The Yankees recalled Effross from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. The right-hander has spent the past couple weeks with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre but will rejoin the Yankees ahead of Friday's series opener versus the Mets. Effross delivered a scoreless frame in his lone appearance of the season for the Yankees on June 17.

The Yankees optioned Effross to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Effross pitched a scoreless inning during Tuesday's 4-0 loss to the Angels in his first appearance for the Yankees since being recalled from Triple-A last week. He owns a 9.90 ERA in 10 innings over three minor-league levels this season, however, so there's still plenty of work to be done before he begins drawing consideration for a more permanent spot in New York's bullpen.

The Yankees reinstated Effross (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The right-hander opened the campaign on the injured list due to a hamstring strain he suffered at the start of spring training, and he won't immediately join the big-league club upon being activated. Effross hasn't seen significant action in the majors since 2022, when he had a 2.54 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 62:15 K:BB in 60 regular-season appearances between the Cubs and Yankees.

Effross (hamstring) had his rehab assignment transferred to Double-A Somerset on Saturday. Effross made one rehab appearance for the Yankees' Florida Complex League affiliate Tuesday, when he allowed one hit and struck out one batter in a scoreless inning without issuing a walk. He's in the final stages of his recovery from the Grade 2 left hamstring strain that he suffered in late February.
