The Yankees optioned Effross to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. Effross tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in Wednesday's loss to the Rangers but finds himself back in the minors a day later. The Yankees will announce a corresponding move prior to Friday's game versus the Cubs, and it could be Ian Hamilton (lat) returning from the injured list.

The Yankees recalled Effross from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. Effross's next appearance with the Yankees will be his first since Oct. 3, 2022, as he missed the team's playoff run that season due to an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. He likely would have been fully cleared for the start of spring training this year, but he underwent back surgery this past winter that prevented him from beginning a rehab assignment until late June. Once Effross was activated from the 60-day injured list over the All-Star break, the Yankees optioned him to Triple-A, where he's flourished in recent weeks. Dating back to Aug. 1, Effross has posted a 1.42 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB in 12.2 innings. He'll likely have to settle for low-leverage work out of the Yankees' bullpen initially but could push his way into a more meaningful role if he fares well.

The Yankees activated Effross (back) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. He had a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 10 strikeouts in 9.1 innings over eight appearances on his four-week rehab assignment, and the Yankees aren't quite ready to add him to the big-league bullpen. Effross had back surgery in December while recovering from October 2022 Tommy John surgery.

Effross (back) tossed a scoreless inning for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, allowing one walk and striking out one batter. The appearance was Effross's fifth in a rehab stint that began June 19. The righty reliever is working his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in October of 2022 as well as back surgery that took place last December. Effross has tallied a 2.84 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB over 6.1 frames in his rehab assignment thus far and is expected to be ready to return to the big-league bullpen after the All-Star break.

The Yankees transferred Effross's (back) rehab assignment from Single-A Tampa to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday. Effross turned in a pair of clean rehab outings for Tampa, covering three shutout innings while striking out four. He'll likely be in store for a more extended stay at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre that could extend the full length of his 30-day rehab window, which began June 19. The right-hander missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from October 2022 Tommy John surgery and has been on the Yankees' injured list for the entirety of the current season while he works his way back from December back surgery.
