X-rays on Witt's forearm came back negative after he was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's game against the Mariners. Witt was in visible pain after taking a 96-mph sinker off his forearm and made a quick exit into the Royals' clubhouse, but he appears to have escaped the incident with no more than a bruise. The team hasn't indicated how long it will be before he returns to game action, but there's currently no reason to think he'll miss Opening Day. The young superstar has had a great spring thus far, slashing .276/.364/.586 with two homers, four RBI and five runs scored over 11 games.

Witt isn't in the Royals' lineup Saturday against Atlanta. After starting the first 160 games of the season, Witt will get a chance to rest Saturday now that the Royals have officially punched their ticket to the postseason. Maikel Garcia will shift to shortstop in Witt's stead, allowing Paul DeJong to pick up a start at the hot corner.

Witt went 0-for-2 with three walks, a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 3-1 extra-inning loss to the Tigers. Detroit made sure Witt wasn't going to make a big impact in a game with significant playoff implications for both teams, but he still found a way to contribute. Witt has produced back-to-back 30-30 campaigns, and the 24-year-old has taken his overall offensive game to another level in 2024 with a .331/.386/.598 slash line.
