  • Cubs' Tyson Miller: Grabs save Sunday
    By RotoWire

Miller struck out two without allowing a baserunner over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Rockies. Keegan Thompson pitched a perfect eighth inning but let three straight batters reach to begin the ninth. Miller then entered the game, allowing one inherited runner to score but successfully escaping the danger to earn his first career save. He likely got the save chance because Porter Hodge took a blown save in Saturday's contest. Miller has pitched to a 2.37 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 69:28 K:BB while adding 12 holds through through 57 innings this season between the Cubs and the Mariners.

  • Miller allowed three runs on two hits and a walk across an inning of relief in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to the Pirates. Chicago already trailed 2-0 when Miller came on in the seventh inning, so the righty didn't take the loss, though he didn't help his team's cause, either. Miller allowed a three-run bomb to Jared Triolo, who has just a .599 OPS this season, to cap off the rough outing. This is the second time in his last three appearances that Miller has allowed three runs, but he still has a strong 2.61 ERA overall, so it's probably not time to hit the panic button quite yet.

  • Cubs' Tyson Miller: Picks up win Friday
    By RotoWire

Miller (4-1) tossed a scoreless 10th inning to earn the win out of the bullpen Friday against the Blue Jays. After Hector Neris blew the save by allowing three runs in the ninth inning, Miller picked Chicago up with a much better 10th, needing just five pitches to shut the door on Toronto. The righty has been solid this season, as he now has a 1.83 ERA and 0.77 WHIP across 44.1 innings for the Cubs and Mariners. If Neris gets pulled from the closer role due to his middling performance, Miller could be a candidate to see save opportunities, though Porter Hodge is probably ahead of him right now in the bullpen pecking order.

  • Miller, who was impressive during Cactus League play and has a 2.25 ERA over his first four appearances with Triple-A Tacoma, is a likely candidate for promotion if Collin Snider (knee) is forced to miss time, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports. Snider took a 102 mph comebacker to his left knee in Sunday's loss to the Brewers, resulting a kneecap contusion. If Snider is deemed unavailable for at least the next several days, the Mariners would be likely to call up a reliever to remain on the taxi squad during the three-game series that begins in Toronto on Monday. Given Miller has been able to carry over his spring success into Tacoma for the time being, he could be the best candidate the team has for such a move.

  • Miller, who has yet to allow an earned run through three Cactus League appearances, has drawn praise from manager Scott Servais for his mechanics and performance, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports. Miller was most recently on the mound Friday against the Cubs, firing two perfect innings during which he recorded a strikeout. The 28-year-old posted a 1-0 record, 4.70 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across 10 appearances for the Mets, Dodgers and Brewers in 2023, and he's working with a four-pitch arsenal that features a fastball and slider the Mariners particularly like. Miller could break camp as a multi-inning relief option if he continues impressing, and Servais notes the right-hander compares favorably in certainly ways to a recent effective Mariners late-inning option. "I really liked what I saw out of Miller." Servais said. "He has a lot of release point characteristics, pitch characteristics that Paul Sewald had as far as how he does it."
