  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Goes deep Tuesday
    By RotoWire

Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and a walk in Tuesday's win over the Diamondbacks. Fitzgerald put the cherry on top with a two-run blast in the fifth to put the Giants up 10-0. His power numbers have significantly dipped since he had that mini home run burst with 11 long balls in 17 games starting back on July 9. Tuesday's home run was only his third since Aug. 13 and just his second and third RBI in September. Fitzgerald is still putting together a productive campaign having permanently been back up with the Giants since June 28. For the year, he's slashing .287/.338/.510 with 35 extra-base hits, 33 RBI, 52 runs, 17 steals and a 20:101 BB:K in 325 plate appearances.

  • Fitzgerald is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Kansas City, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Fitzgerald started the last three games after missing the three contests prior to that with a back injury, but he'll get some rest Friday. Brett Wisely is filling in at shortstop for the Giants.

  • Fitzgerald (back) isn't in the Giants' lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. MRI scans revealed no structural damage in Fitzgerald's back Friday, but he'll need to miss a second consecutive start after departing Thursday's contest with tightness. Brett Wisely will shift to shortstop, opening up second base for Marco Luciano.

  • Fitzgerald exited Thursday's game against Milwaukee due to lower-back tightness, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Fitzgerald left the game in the third inning after going 0-for-1 in his lone plate appearance. The severity of the injury is currently unclear, so he should be considered day-to-day heading into Friday's series opener versus the Padres.

  • Fitzgerald went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored in Wednesday's 13-2 win over the Brewers. Fitzgerald has kept his bat warm in September, going 12-for-35 (.343) over nine contests, though he's produced just one RBI this month. The shortstop is now at a .297/.352/.532 slash line with 14 home runs, 17 stolen bases, 31 RBI and 49 runs scored over 83 games. Wednesday was the first time he's hit leadoff versus a right-handed pitcher since Aug. 25 -- he hit between second and seventh for 13 consecutive games. The Giants haven't faced a southpaw since Aug. 21, though that streak of opposing righties is projected to end Sunday if Martin Perez (paternity list) returns as expected for the Padres.
