  Fitzgerald (back) is starting at second base and batting seventh Friday against the Brewers in his Cactus League debut, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Fitzgerald has been brought along slowly after developing a lower-back injury early in camp, but he's been going through full workouts for a few days and is now ready to test things out in game action. The 27-year-old is slated to serve as the Giants' primary second baseman in 2025 following a mini-breakout which saw him post an .831 OPS with 15 homers and 17 steals in 96 games last season.

  Fitzgerald (back) has been cleared for full baseball activities and is expected to be ready for Cactus League games by this weekend, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Fitzgerald developed a lower-back injury early on in camp but has been progressing well since then. The 27-year-old will do some hitting and field grounders Monday and should be ready for game action in a few days. He's projected to open the season as the Giants' regular second baseman.

Fitzgerald was held out of workouts for a few days at the start of camp due to the injury, but he's feeling better and is close to making his spring debut. The 27-year-old posted 15 homers and 17 steals with an .831 OPS as a rookie last year and will begin the season as San Francisco's everyday second baseman after Willy Adames was signed in December to take over at shortstop.
