• Cardinals' Jordan Walker: Back in action Saturday

  Walker (knee) will start in right field and bat sixth in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against Toronto. Inflammation in Walker's left knee forced him out of the Cards' exhibition game March 5, and he has been sidelined ever since. After more than a week of rehab, he'll now return to competitive action before the end of the Grapefruit League schedule, keeping his availability for Opening Day intact. Walker has been a non-factor at the plate this spring, however, going just 2-for-14 with two RBI and eight strikeouts over six contests.

  Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Walker (knee) is tracking toward a return to the lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Walker began a running progression earlier this week and has also taken batting practice and tracked flyballs as he works his way back from left knee inflammation. He has missed over a week of action, but as long as he returns Saturday as expected and doesn't have any setbacks, Walker should be fine for Opening Day.

  Walker (knee) went through a running progression Tuesday, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Walker is expected to progress to lateral movements next as he works his way back from left knee inflammation. A return to Grapefruit League action should come after that. Walker hasn't played since tweaking his knee March 4 but is expected to have enough time to ramp back up for Opening Day.

  Walker (knee) progressed to hitting soft toss Saturday and is set to be re-evaluated Monday, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Nursing some inflammation in his left knee, Walker had taken dry swings Friday and has also played some catch. The young outfielder should be cleared to ramp up his activities if his evaluation Monday goes well. Walker is projected to be the Cardinals' primary right fielder this season.

  Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that Walker (knee) was able to take some dry swings and play catch Friday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Marmol described Walker's progress two days after being diagnosed with inflammation in his left knee as "a little ahead of what I expected," adding that he's "super encouraged" with how the outfielder is feeling. Walker will be held out of Grapefruit League action for a few more days but is tracking toward avoiding a stint on the injured list.
