  • Robinson Chirinos: Announces retirement
    By RotoWire

Chirinos announced Wednesday via his personal Twitter account that he has retired from professional baseball. Chirinos played 11 years in the majors and spent the bulk of his career with the Rangers, but he also had stints with the Mets, Rays, Cubs, Astros and Orioles. He spent the 2022 campaign with Baltimore, slashing .179/.265/.287 with four home runs over 220 plate appearances.

  • Orioles' Robinson Chirinos: Homers in loss
    By RotoWire

Chirinos went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss against the Red Sox. The backup catcher provided the only offense for Baltimore on Wednesday as the team was stifled by Rich Hill and the Boston bullpen. Chirinos' solo shot in the eighth inning was his fourth of the season and first since Aug 3. The 38-year-old still figures to play second fiddle to Adley Rutschman the rest of the way.

  • Chirinos went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in Friday's 5-2 win over the Athletics. Chirinos did his damage in the third inning to open the scoring. He's played in just eight games since the start of August, but he's gone 9-for-24 (.375) with a home run, five RBI and two runs scored in that span. The 38-year-old backup catcher has a .183/.272/.290 slash line with three homers, 20 RBI, nine runs scored, a steal and nine doubles through 192 plate appearances. His playing time is likely to remain scarce with Adley Rutschman playing well, but Chirinos has been solid in his limited opportunities of late.

  • Chirinos went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Rangers. Chirinos appeared in just eight games in July, going 2-for-22 with 10 strikeouts for the month. He's already off to a better start in August with a three-hit performance and his first homer since May 28. The backup catcher is slashing .168/.256/.282 with three long balls, 17 RBI, eight runs scored, a stolen base and eight doubles in 169 plate appearances this year. Even with a good stretch of hitting, Chirinos is unlikely to vulture away much of Adley Rutschman's playing time.

  • Chirinos is batting .206 (7-for-34) since the start of June. Chirinos had a couple of multi-hit games last month, but he's been held without a hit in seven of his last 11 contests. He won't get many chances to get in a rhythm, since Adley Rutschman commands a large share of the playing time behind the dish. Chirinos has posted a .159/.262/.270 slash line with two home runs, 15 RBI, seven runs scored and a stolen base in 43 contests, and he's likely to be limited to just two or three starts a week at most.
