Joe Benson: Released by Twins
Joe Benson was released by the Twins on Thursday, Seth Stohs of TwinsDaily.com reports.Benson was reassigned to minor league camp earlier this month, but the Twins apparently regarded him as expendable enough to release him entirely. Benson has been a mediocre hitter in the minors in recent seasons and hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011, both of which hurt his chances of getting signed by another organization.

Twins' Joe Benson: Minor league deal with Minnesota
Joe Benson signed a minor league contract with Minnesota, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.Benson was once one of the top prospects in the Minnesota system, but he never stuck in the majors. He played just 21 games with the Minnesota Twins in 2011 and hasn't been back since. He split last season between Triple-A and Double-A and independent baseball and had a lackluster .667 OPS for Triple-A and .738 OPS at Double-A. He's a long shot to reach the majors with the Twins again given a surplus of talent in the outfield and will likely just add depth in the minors.
