Randy Choate: Released on Tuesday
Randy Choate was released by the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports.Though he didn't make the Opening Day roster, Choate could stick with the organization to provide bullpen depth, if he can't quickly locate a big-league job. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said he hopes the veteran lefty will accept an assignment to Triple-A Buffalo.

Randy Choate signed a minor league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, Sweeny Murti of Sportsradio 66 WFAN reports.Usually an excellent lefty specialist, Choate saw his splits against left-handed hitters take a step back in 2015, allowing a .265/.333/.361 line in 94 plate appearances. The 40-year-old will enter Blue Jays camp seeking a spot that could be open with fellow left-hander Aaron Loup (forearm) out due to a flexor tendon strain.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to move relief pitcher Randy Choate this offseason, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. I think in Choate’s case, for us, he’s fairly one-dimensional," general manager John Mozeliak said. "That makes it difficult for us to use him, particularly during a long season." Choate posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 32:13 K:BB ratio in 36 innings during the regular season. He fared much better against left-handed hitters, who hit .093/.205/.147 in 75 at-bats against the reliever. Righties posted a .938 OPS when facing Choate in 2014.

St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Randy Choate was stuck with a loss Tuesday, giving up a run on a hit and a walk while not recording an out in his team's 5-4, 10-inning defeat against the Giants in Game 3 of the NLCS. Choate (0-1) began the bottom of the 10th inning with a walk before surrendering a single, putting the potential winning run in scoring position with no outs. He then airmailed a throw to first base on an attempted sacrifice to bring the lead runner around to score on a walkoff error. The Cardinals will be looking to even the series Wednesday in Game 4.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Randy Choate needed just one pitch to pick up a win Saturday, recording the final out of the seventh inning of his team's 4-1 victory over the Nationals. Choate (1-2) was called upon with the bases loaded and two outs after back-to-back walks by starter Shelby Miller, and he immediately induced a groundball to end the inning. The Cardinals were able to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh and get Choate his first win. He owns a 6.62 ERA and 15:7 K:BB ratio in 17 2/3 innings.

Cardinals formulating plan for Randy Choate
Veteran reliever Randy Choate made the opening day roster as one of two left-handed pitchers in the St. Louis Cardinals' bullpen. He didn't make an appearance in either of the team's first two games, but manager Mike Matheny is still trying to formulate a plan on how to use the lefty specialist. "I think we have a different dynamic with Randy," Matheny said Tuesday, per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Randy is going to make it a little more challenging to make sure we’re putting guys in the right spots. It’s a whole different thought process and mentality (with him).”
