Astros send 1B Jon Singleton to Triple-A on Friday
The Astros have optioned young first baseman Jon Singleton to Triple-A Fresno on Friday. The move clears a spot for the recently-acquired Carlos Gomez, who was added to the roster Friday.
Singleton, who made his MLB debut in 2014, began this season at Triple and was recalled at the end of June. In 16 games since the call-up, the young slugger hit .205 with just one home run and 16 strikeouts.

Indians 1B Carlos Santana hits big HR in tight victory
Indians first baseman Carlos Santana cracked a first-inning home run to propel Cleveland to a 3-1 victory on Thursday, his 12th homer of the season.
Santana connected off A's starter Chris Bassitt to dead center, driving in Michael Brantley to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.
Santana has now hit safely in eight of his last 10 games to raise his average to .227.

White Sox Jose Abreu connects for 17th homer in loss
Jose Abreu got the White Sox on the board early with a first-inning home run, but it wasn't enough in a loss to the Red Sox on Thursday.
Abreu was all over a knuckleball from Red Sox starter Steven Wright, depositing it deep to right-center for a 2-0 lead. It was Abreu's 17th home run of the season, and raised his RBI total to 59.
Abreu extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Astros' Chris Carter slugs 17th home run in win on Tuesday
Astros designated hitter Chris Carter smacked a two-run home run in Tuesday's 10-5 win over the Angels. Carter's two-run shot trimmed the Angels' lead to 4-3, and the Angels would not be able to rally back, as Astros downed the Halos in this one.
The home run, his 17th of the year, was Carter's only hit of the game. The slugger has homered twice in his last five games.

White Sox 1B Jose Abreu belts 16th home run in win Tuesday
White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu had a big night at the plate in Tuesday's 9-4 win over the Red Sox. Abreu went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored.
Abreu launched a two-run home run, his 16th longball of the season, in the sixth inning to put Chicago up by five. The play was originally ruled a catch, but Red Sox center fielder Mookie Betts tumbled over the short right-field wall, dropping the ball in the bullpen. After a review, the call was overturned, and Abreu was awarded the home run.
Abreu also supplied an RBI double in the eighth inning. He is hitting .341 with two home runs and 10 RBI over his past 10 games.

Rays activate Asdrubal Cabrera; option Jake Elmore
The Rays activated shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera after Monday's win over the Tigers, reports the Tampa Bay Times. Cabrera has been out since July 11 with a hamstring injury.
To make room for Cabrera, the team optioned first baseman Jake Elmore to Triple-A. Prior to Monday's game, Elmore was hitting .206 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 141 at-bats.

Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera set to begin rehab Monday
Kevin Cash has stated that Rays shelved shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera is set to begin a rehab assignment Monday for Class A Advanced Port Charlotte. He will play about six innings.
A right hamstring strain has sidelined Cabrera for two weeks. He was in a 7-for-40 funk before going down.

Astros first Chris Carter isn't in the starting lineup for Sunday's game, after starting 83 games this season.
Carter is replaced by Marwin Gonzalez, who gets his eighth start there, and first since July 21.

Indians first baseman Carlos Santana will start at designated hitter on Sunday, getting a break from the field.
It's Santana's second start at DH in three games and third this season. Jesus Aguilar replaces Santana at first, starting there for the second time this season.

Angels RF Kole Calhoun drives in three runs in loss Saturday
Angels right fielder Kole Calhoun just about did it all on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as his club was topped 7-6 by the Rangers. Calhoun went 2 for 4 with three RBI and a run scored. He also made a diving catch in the outfield to rob Rougned Odor of a hit in the eighth inning.
Calhoun is batting .375 (12 for 28) with three home runs and nine RBI over his past nine games.
