Chris Carter adds to home run total
Astros outfielder/first basemen Chris Carter belted two home runs Tuesday against the Twins.
Carter hit a two-run shot in the third inning, and struck again in his next at-bat. With two men on, Carter smashed an 81 mph slider out to left for the three-run homer. It was the sixth time this season Carter has hit more than one home run in a game. He finished 2 for 4, with two runs scored and five RBI.
He now has 28 home runs on the season -- one shy of his career-high of 29 from last year -- and 66 RBI. His batting average is up to .230 on the season thanks to a .315 clip since July 1.

Angels make a few roster moves Sunday
The Angels announced Sunday they recalled reliever Vinnie Pestano and pitcher Caleb Clay from Triple-A Salt Lake. To clear space on the roster, pitcher Cam Bedrosian and first baseman C.J. Cron were optioned to the minors.

The Twins optioned first baseman Chris Colabello after Friday's game to clear a roster spot for Saturday starter Trevor May.
Colabello hasn't provided much offense since the All-Star break, going 5 for 34 with no extra-base hits. He owns a .229/.282/.380 line with six home runs and 39 RBI in 205 at-bats.

Chris Carter maintains torrid pace with two-homer game
Astros designated hitter Chris Carter, who has shed his all-or-nothing tag with productive hitting recently, continued to roll Thursday in Philadelphia.
Carter smashed two-run homers in the first and third innings to give him five blasts in the last 13 games. But he also added a single and has 34 hits in his last 104 at-bats to raise his average from .182 to .225. and his slugging perentage nearly 100 points to .494.

Astros DH Chris Carter continued his recent surge at the plate with his 22nd home run Saturday vs. Toronto. It was his ninth home run in his last 22 games.
Carter went 3 for 4 with three runs, one double and two RBI in an 8-2 win Saturday. He had an RBI double in the first inning and added a solo home run in the fifth. He even had his second stolen base of the season.
Since July 4, Carter is batting .325 with a .723 slugging percentage and 1.110 OPS in his last 22 games. He has six doubles, 20 runs and 21 RBI in that span.

Jose Abreu stretches hitting streak to 21 in Friday victory
Jose Abreu did Friday night what Jose Abreu does - all that was missing was the home run.
The White Sox slugger singled in a run in the fourth to increase his major league-leading RBI total to 84. He finished the game with three singles, two runs scored and a walk in aiding a shootout win over the Twins.
Abreu now boasts a 21-game hitting streak and has hit safely in an increasingly ridiculous 39 of 40 games.

The only unusual aspect of another big game for White Sox slugger Jose Abreu on Thursday was that he neither scored nor drove in a run. Other than that - typical Abreu.
The breakout star doubled twice, singled and walked twice in helping his team defeat Detroit. Abreu extended his hitting streak to 20 and has hit safely in 38 of his last 39 games. He leads the majors in home runs with 31 and RBI with 83.

Astros designated hitter Chris Carter is back in the lineup Thursday against the Blue Jays, afterhe was forced out Wednesday due to an illness.
Carter is in his usual spot, batting third and serving as the DH after his one-day absence.

The Indians have traded shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to the Nationals prior to Thursday's trade deadline, according to MLB.com.
Cabrera has been considered a likely candidate to be traded leading up to the deadline, as he is stuck in his second down season in a row. Cabrera is hitting .246/.305/.386 with nine home runs and 40 RBI in 97 games for the Indians.
