Josh Bell DH | MIN
Pirates' Josh Bell: Makes impression in first big league series
Bell walked and scored a run as a pinch hitter in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.
While he didn't get a start over the weekend, Bell reached base and scored all three times he was called upon to pinch hit, rapping out a single Friday before launching a grand slam for his first big league homer Saturday. The Pirates first baseman of the future might get sent back down after the All-Star break to make room for a pitcher, but it's not for lack of trying on his part.

Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY
Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Four more hits Sunday
Rizzo went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Pirates.
After posting a huge .378/.467/.744 slash line in June, Rizzo's kept his momentum going in July, racking up a .400/.478/.700 line with two homers, five RBI and eight runs scored in 10 games. He's on pace for career highs in homers, RBI and runs as well as all three slash categories, and don't be surprised if he's in the MVP conversation at the end of the year.

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Stays blazing hot with four-hit day Saturday
Rizzo went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and a run in Saturday's 12-6 loss to the Pirates.
His bat has caught fire in July, as he now has hit safely in eight straight games while slashing .343/.439/.629 over 35 at-bats. Rizzo has his average up to .290, a figure that's complemented by a stellar .410 OBP and .581 slugging percentage.

Pirates' Josh Bell: Likely headed back to Triple-A
Bell will not play in front of John Jaso at first base and will likely be going back to Triple-A Indianapolis after Sunday's matchup with the Cubs, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Manager Clint Hurdle said Sunday that Bell wasn't going to take over first base or even play in front of Jaso on a regular basis, so the 23-year-old slugger will likely go back to Indianapolis over the All-Star break. Bell is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Cubs as Jaso is slotted in at first.

Tommy Joseph 1B | TEX
Phillies' Tommy Joseph: Perfect day Saturday
Joseph went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Rockies.
The home run was Joseph's 11th of the season. He has homered in back-to-back games and in three of his last four contests. Saturday's performance raised his batting average from .238 to .258, the highest it has been since June 16.

Ryan Howard 1B | COL
Phillies' Ryan Howard: Not in Saturday's lineup
Howard is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies, Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
He will sit in favor of Tommy Joseph at first base with lefty Tyler Anderson due up for Colorado, as is standard whenever the Phillies face a lefty. Howard has been dreadful against right-handers as well this season (.161/.227/.367) and the team figures to continue the process of phasing him out as the we progress through the end of the season (and the end of Howard's tenure in Philly).

Chris Shaw 1B | CHW
Giants' Chris Shaw: Raking since promotion to Double-A
Shaw is hitting .333/.317/.538 in 39 at-bats since being promoted to Double-A Richmond.
The 22-year-old first baseman hit .285/.357/.544 with 16 homers in 305 plate appearances at High-A prior to his promotion, and has never posted a K-rate higher than 23 percent as a professional. The first base rule applies, as Shaw will have to hit all the way up the ladder to profile as a big league regular, but so far he looks like the real deal.

Josh Bell DH | MIN
Pirates' Josh Bell: Out of lineup Saturday
Bell is not in the lineup for Saturday's tilt with the Cubs, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
As expected, Bell is beginning the weekend out of the lineup as David Freese gets the start at first base and bats second. Bell, one of the majors' biggest prospects, connected for a single in his first big league at-bat on Friday and then came around to score. It's tough to say whether Bell will stick around after the All-Star Break but given that he slashed .324/.407/.535 with Pittsburgh's Triple-A affiliate this season, it's going to be hard to keep his talents from the majors much longer.

Wilmer Flores 1B | SF
Mets' Wilmer Flores: Out of lineup Saturday
Flores is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals.
Flores is out of the lineup for the third consecutive game as the Mets continue to roll with Jose Reyes at third base and Asdrubal Cabrera at shortstop. When given the chance, Flores has been on fire lately with 11 hits and 10 RBI in his last 25 at-bats.
