Cleveland designated hitter Carlos Santana drove in two runs on Monday during a loss in New York. 

Santana went 2 for 4 with a ground-rule double that scored Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher in the fifth inning to tie the score up at four. New York won 7-4. 

The 27-year-old Santana has gone 5 for 8 in his last two games to get his average back up to .288. He has eight homers and 24 RBI on the season with 14 doubles and 31 runs scored for the Indians. 

Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera is likely headed to the disabled list after coming out of Monday's game in New York, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Cabrera will return to Cleveland Tuesday after further examination on his aggravated quad injury. 

Manager Terry Francona indicated following Cleveland's 7-4 loss to the Yankees that it is likely Cabrera is headed to the DL. Mike Aviles is expected to play shortstop in his absence. 

"There was a lot of pain," Cabrera said after the game. "There's still a lot of pain."

Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera suffered a strained right quadriceps in Monday's game against the Yankees, CBS Sports Baseball Insider Danny Knobler reports. 

Cabrera pulled up running to first in the fifth inning. Mike Aviles replaced him at short and will do so going forward until he can return. Cabrera is loosely considered day to day, as Cleveland has not given word as to how long he might be out. 

Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera had to be helped off the field Monday in a game against the Yankees, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Cabrera, who had been dealing with a sore quad and playing through the issue, may have re-aggravated the injury running to first base. He was helped off the field by manager Terry Francona and head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff and was not putting any weight on his right leg.

Batting third to start the night, Cabrera was 0 for 2 with a strikeout to lower his average to .254. He had a sacrifice in the game before leaving.

Cabrera entered Monday with hits in eight of his previous 10 games, including a homer and five RBI. He has five HRs on the year with 25 RBI.

The Twins have optioned infielder Chris Colabello back to Triple-A Rochester Sunday. Colabello is hitting .133 (1 for 6) in the majors. He is hitting .358 with 12 homers and 39 RBI in 46 games at Triple-A.

Freddie Freeman had two hits Sunday and drove in two runs to help the Atlanta Braves defeat Washington. The first baseman was 2 for 4.

In his last 10 games, Freeman is hitting .405 with three home runs, 10 RBI and eight runs scored. The downside is that he's walked once in that span.

Freeman's batting average is .314 and he has five home runs, 27 runs scored and 36 RBI.

Indians catcher Carlos Santana went 3 for 4 with a run scored in the club's loss Sunday against Tampa Bay.

The hits were all singles for Santana, playing at DH on Sunday. Santana was just 4 for his last 25, so his day was especially welcome. Santana is hitting .283/.390/.489.

Chris Carter hit a two-run home run Saturday to give the Houston Astros all the runs they needed in a win over the Angels.

Carter, who has two home runs in his last three games, now has 11 long balls on the season. While he's driving in plenty of runs, he has 31 RBI, Carter is hitting just .223. Much of that can be attributed to his strikeout rate. Carter, with 79 punchouts so far, is on pace for 238 this year.

Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt enjoyed a productive night at the dish as he reached base three times and launched a grand slam Saturday night against the Cubs.

Goldschmidt went deep in the eighth inning for a grand slam that broke the game open for the Diamondbacks. He added a single and finished 2 for 5 with a walk, three runs scored and four RBI in a 12-4 victory.

Goldschmidt is hitting .428 (12 for 28) with nine RBI in his last seven games. He has a .332/.411/.603 slash line with 13 homers and 45 RBI in 54 games played.

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman hit his fourth home run in Thursday's victory over Toronto.

Freeman finished 2 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Over his last four games, Freeman is a scorching 9 for 18 with a triple and a home run. His batting line is up to a cool .312/.376/.452.
