Yankees' Max Fried: Could begin rehab assignment Friday
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Max Fried (elbow) threw a successful live batting practice session Saturday and is "likely" to pitch in a rehab game as soon as next Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.Per MLB.com, Fried reported to Double-A Somerset to throw his live session Saturday and tossed 44 pitches over three simulated innings. He'll presumably throw a bullpen session in the next day or two before the Yankees assign him to an affiliate to kick off a rehab assignment. The veteran southpaw has been on the shelf since May 16 due to a bone bruise in his left elbow.

Yankees' Max Fried: Two-inning sim game on tap
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Max Fried (elbow) will throw a two-inning simulated game Tuesday, David Lennon of Newsday reports. The Yankees are targeting Fried for around 30 pitches while he takes the mound and faces hitters for the first time since landing on the 15-day injured list May 16 due to a left elbow bone bruise. Fried doesn't look like he'll have enough time to get fully stretched out before the All-Star break, but a late-July return from the IL could be in play if he steers clear of any setbacks as he builds up his pitch count via sim games and/or minor-league rehab starts.

Yankees' Max Fried: Cleared to throw off mound
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Max Fried (elbow) will throw off a mound Saturday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.Recent imaging on Fried's left elbow showed increased healing, and the southpaw is ready to take the next step in his recovery from a bone bruise that caused him to go on the 15-day injured list in mid-May. Per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Saturday's session will be "touch and feel" in what will be Fried's first time throwing off a mound since being placed on the IL. The Yankees should gain a better sense of Fried's injury recovery once the southpaw is cleared to embark on a rehab assignment, which could happen in late June.
