RP Kyuji Fujikawa signs with independent Japanese team
Former Texas Rangers reliever Kyuji Fujikawa has been signed by the Fighting Dogs, an independent Japanese team in his hometown of Kochi, per the Fort Worth Star Telegram. The 34-year-old Fujikawa struggled mightily for the Cubs and Rangers in 29 appearances over the last three seasons, compiling a 5.74 ERA and allowing 31 hits in 26 2/3 innings. He was released by Texas on May 22.

Five days after designating reliever Kyuji Fujikawa for assignment, the Texas Rangers have announced that they have given him his unconditional release. Fujikawa did not distinguish himself in the two games in which he appeared this season, allowing three runs in 1 2/3 innings. His career ERA is 5.74.

Rangers put Ross Detwiler on DL
The Texas Rangers placed pitcher Ross Detwiler on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his throwing shoulder, per the Star Telegram. Detwiler is 0-5 and felt soreness in his last start, on Thursday. RHP Tanner Scheppers was called up from Triple-A to take Detwiler's spot. The Rangers also called up Ross Ohlendorf from Triple-A. Ohlendorf hasn't made a Major League appearance since September 18, 2013. He was 2-1, 4.35 in Triple A. To open a spot on the 40-man roster, pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa was designated for assignment.

Texas Rangers pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa made his season-debut in Thursday's loss to the Royals. Fujikawa, who had been sidelined all season with a groin injury, was activated from the disabled list earlier in the day. He pitched a perfect eighth inning on Thursday, though he admitted to not feeling at 100 percent. "I'm just going to go out there and give it all every day, every inning," Fujikawa said, per MLB.com. "I didn't really feel at my best, but I'm going to give it my best."

Rangers activate RHP Kyuji Fujikawa, option RHP Spencer Patton
The Texas Rangers have reinstated right-hander Kyuji Fujikawa from the 15-day disabled list after his rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock. Fellow righty Spencer Patton has been optioned to the same team to make room on the roster for Fujikawa. The 34-year-old Fujikawa, who could make his Texas debut Thursday against Kansas City, performed well in relief during his assignment. He held opponents to a .194 batting average and gave up four runs in 9 1/3 innings. He did struggle with his control, walking nine. Fujikawa signed a free agent contract with Texas in December after two years in the Cubs organization. Tommy John surgery sidelined him for 14 months.

It was his fifth rehab appearance in Triple-A and Fujikawa is expected to be re-evaluated Monday in Arlington to decide what the next step is.

Fujikawa, who is on the 15-day DL with groin tightness, struck out one and needed 18 pitches to get through the inning. He will have at least one more rehab appearance before Texas will consider bringing him back to the major league club.
