Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Designated for assignment
The Chicago Cubs designated Patrick Wisdom for assignment Wednesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the newly-acquired Eli Morgan. Wisdom, 33, fell off to a lowly .171/.237/.392 batting line this season for the Cubs. Rather than pay him a raise in arbitration, the team is removing him from the roster now. Wisdom slugged 76 homers from 2021-23 and still hits the ball very hard when he makes contact, so he should be able to find work with a club that's willing to deal with his strikeout problems.

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Provides offense Saturday
Patrick Wisdom went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Nationals.Wisdom provided all of his team's offense and snapped MacKenzie Gore's no-hit bid in the loss, which eliminated the Chicago Cubs from playoff contention. The 33-year-old has mostly served in a reserve role, but with Chicago eliminated, he may see an uptick in playing time during the final few games of the regular season. Wisdom offers some pop, though he is batting only .186 this season and is mostly off the fantasy radar.

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Launches seventh homer
Patrick Wisdom hit a two-run home run, walked and scored another run in Saturday's 14-2 win against the Marlins.Wisdom entered as a pinch hitter in the eighth, walked and scored a run. Then in the ninth, took infielder Vidal Brujan deep for his first home run since July 28. Wisdom has been an afterthought in the Chicago Cubs' lineup the whole second half of the season, as he's started just three of their last 20 games. The 32-year-old has struggled with a .203/.272/.447 slash line through 58 games.

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Continuing to see limited work
Patrick Wisdom is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers. The 32-year-old has started in just three of the Chicago Cubs' 18 games thus far in August and is expected to continue seeing limited usage while Michael Busch and Isaac Paredes are healthy and entrenched as the team's everyday starters in the corner infield. Wisdom has logged three straight seasons of 20-plus home runs, but he's slugged just six long balls so far in 2024 while receiving only 135 plate appearances.

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Turns tide with grand slam
Patrick Wisdom hit a grand slam in his only at-bat in Saturday's 9-4 win against the Royals.Chicago trailed by one run in the seventh inning before loading the bases with one out. Wisdom was brought in to pinch hit for Pete Crow-Armstrong and promptly belted a grand slam to turn the deficit into a lead. However, he has been impactful of late, collecting two homers and five RBI over his past five at-bats.

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Goes deep off bench
Patrick Wisdom went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.Wisdom entered the game as a defensive replacement in the fifth inning and later hit his fourth home run of the year in the ninth. The 32-year-old remains a clear bench player for the Chicago Cubs, with the likes of Michael Busch and Christopher Morel ahead of him at the corner infield spots, so Wisdom is unlikely to have a ton of fantasy value the rest of the way unless any regulars get hurt.

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Delivers off bench Tuesday
Patrick Wisdom went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the White Sox.Wisdom provided a game-tying blast as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning after replacing Michael Busch. Over his previous 15 games, Wisdom had gone just 4-for-31 (.129) with two doubles, three RBI and 11 strikeouts. He's now slashing .230/.304/.475 with three homers, 11 RBI, seven runs scored and three stolen bases over 69 plate appearances this season. Wisdom's slump during May didn't help his cause to see more than a short-side platoon role, as he's primarily played at first base in a short-side share with Busch.
