    Rafael Soriano: To retire from baseball

    Rafael Soriano will retire after 14 major league seasons, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports.Soriano pitched in just 5.2 MLB innings last year with a 63.5 ERA as he looked washed up at 35 years old. Overall, though, Soriano had a stellar career, finishing with 207 saves and a 2.89 ERA (144 ERA+) in 636.1 innings. He came up as a 22-year-old with the Mariners in 2002 and enjoyed stints with Atlanta, Tampa Bay, the Yankees and Washington before his brief last season with the Cubs.

    Blue Jays' Rafael Soriano: Sorting out visa issues, not in camp yet

    Rafael Soriano is not in camp yet as he and the Toronto Blue Jays are still working out some visa issues, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsbet reports.This has happened for a decent amount of players this offseason, so it shouldn't keep the reliever out of camp for too long. Once he arrives, Soriano will compete for a bullpen spot with Toronto.

    Rafael Soriano signed a minor league deal with a spring training invite with the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.Soriano had about as rough a 2015 as possible, waiting until June to sign a minor league deal with the Cubs, then struggling in five innings amid shoulder issues. It's not likely the 36-year-old reaches his old peak, but a healthy showing could land him in the late innings. Given his age however, that's a long shot.

    Cubs DFA relievers Rafael Soriano and James Russell

    Chicago Cubs relievers Rafael Soriano and James Russell have been designated for assignment.  Soriano made six appearances for the Cubs after signing a minor-league deal in June. He posted a 6.35 ERA, and was placed on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation on Aug. 5. In his first season back with the Cubs, Russell struggled in 2015. In 49 relief appearances, he posted a 5.29 ERA over 34 innings of work.

    Cubs recall Rafael Soriano, DFA Edwin Jackson

    The Chicago Cubs recalled pitcher Rafael Soriano from Triple-A Iowa, the team announced on Sunday.  The Cubs signed Soriano as a free agent on June 9. He threw five scoreless innings at Double-A and two scoreless at Triple-A before getting called up to the majors. To make room, the Cubs designated pitcher Edwin Jackson for assignment. Jackson was 2-1 with a 3.19 ERA in 23 relief appearances with the team.

    Cubs RP Rafael Soriano pitching at Double-A

    New Chicago Cubs reliever Rafael Soriano has made five appearances at Double-A Tennessee since being signed to a minors deal on June 9.  The veteran right-hander has now allowed a run in his five innings of relief, and has a 4:3 K:BB ratio so far. The Cubs have not given any indication as to when they anticipate Soriano being called up to the big-league club.

    Cubs' Maddon not expecting Rafael Soriano before All-Star Break

    Reliever Rafael Soriano , who recently inked a minor-league deal with the Chicago Cubs, is not expected to join the team until after the All-Star Break, Joe Maddon said, per the Daily Herald.  Soriano has been working out in the Dominican Republic to get into game shape, but is likely at least a month away from being ready to pitch out of the bullpen for the Cubs.
