    Ramon Ortiz begins throwing program

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitcher Ramon Ortiz thought his career might be over when he tore up his elbow on June 2 during a game against San Diego. After undergoing surgery at the age of 40, it appeared to be a long shot that Ortiz would make it back to the majors, the National Post reports Sunday.  Ortiz, however, recently started a throwing program at Toronto's spring training complex in Dunedin. He threw off flat ground at a distance of 75 feet Saturday.  While Ortiz will not pitch in a game again this season, he does have high hopes of making it back next year.
