In the ultimate better-late-than-ever move, the Washington Nationals reinstated outfielder Reed Johnson from the 60-day disabled list Saturday. Johnson has been out since late April because of foot and oblique issues, but it appears he'll finally rejoin the club. He probably won't see much playing time over the last week of the season outside of pinch-hitting. He managed four hits in 18 at-bats before going down.

Nationals OF Reed Johnson injures oblique while sneezing
Outfielder Reed Johnson, who was on a rehab assignment with the Washington Nationals' Class A team due to a foot injury, will be sidelined again after injuring his oblique while sneezing, per MASN Sports. Johnson, who was nearing a potential return to the Nationals, was hit by a pitch in his side, followed that up with violent sneeze and wound up injuring his oblique, much to the amazement of Washington manager Matt Williams. "Strange happenings," Williams said. "He got hit in the ribs, and then sneezed and pulled an oblique in the same area. I don't know what it was. But he actually sneezed and he's got an oblique strain. So he's been taken back off of a rehab and we're dealing with that. I've never ... there have been a lot of strange things." Johnson played 12 games for the Nationals before going on the DL. He was 5-for-16 in five games with Class A Potomac.

Nationals OF Reed Johnson goes 0 for 2 in first rehab game
Washington Nationals outfielder Reed Johnson participated in his first bit of game action since he tore a tendon in his first in April. Johnson played three innings of a rehab game with Class A Potomac on Thursday. The veteran outfielder, who started in left field on Thursday, went 0 for 2 before being lifted for a defensive replacement in the fourth inning. It is not yet clear when Johnson will be able to be activated from the disabled list, but it is possible that he joins the team when the rosters expand on September 1. "We’ll see how it plays out with how I’m feeling and stuff, but I know I’ve kept my body in good enough shape to where I don’t think it’ll take too long to get me back," Johnson said, per The Washington Post. "Obviously, they’re going to ease me into it. It’s just not the same as trying to duplicate that outside of a game is kind of tough."

Nats call up Emmanuel Burriss, transfer Reed Johnson to 60-day DL
The Washington Nationals selected the contract of infielder Emmanuel Burriss from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, outfielder Reed Johnson (foot) was moved from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list. Burriss is back in the majors for the first time since 2012. Burriss hit .278 (66 for 237) with eight doubles, five triples, three home runs, 25 walks, 10 stolen bases and 21 RBI in 62 games for Syracuse.
