Michael Cuddyer: Retiring from baseball
Michael Cuddyer (back) is retiring from baseball, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.Rather than play out the final season of his two-year pact with New York, and possibly serving as more of a veteran presence than anything with Michael Conforto in left field, Cuddyer has decided to step away after 14 major-league seasons. Cuddyer played 117 games for the Mets in 2015, but battled a variety of injuries en route to a .259/.309/.391 slash line. The 36-year-old won a batting title in 2013 as a member of the Rockies and made two All-Star teams.

Michael Cuddyer underwent surgery for a core muscle injury Thursday, Mike Vorkunov of NJ.com reports.There wasn't any indication during the season that Cuddyer was dealing with this issue, but everything appears to have gone smoothly with the surgery. New York Mets outfielder Michael Cuddyer has returned tot he starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the Marlins. Cuddyer had not started a game since Sept. 1 due to left wrist tendinitis. But he was able to pinch hit a couple of times, including Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. With Curtis Granderson getting the night off, Cuddyer will be in right field and bat sixth on Monday.

Mets activate OF Michael Cuddyer from DL; Eric Campbell optioned
New York Mets outfielder Michael Cuddyer was activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to Monday's game against the Rockies. Cuddyer had been bothered by a sore knee for the better part of July, and was officially placed on the DL on July 24. Cuddyer was hitless in seven at-bats during his recent two-game rehab stint at Class A St. Luice. In a corresponding roster move, infielder Eric Campbell was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.
