Rockies' Brian Mundell: Elects to retire
Colorado Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich said Friday that Brian Mundell informed the organization that he will retire from professional baseball, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. The Rockies placed Mundell on the restricted list the same day, which officially removed him from the 40-man roster. If Mundell elects to unretire at some point, the Rockies would maintain his rights. The 26-year-old had yet to make his MLB debut but earned an invitation to summer camp after slashing .333/.399/.521 over 435 plate appearances at Triple-A Albuquerque in 2019.

Rockies' Brian Mundell: Placed on restricted list
Brian Mundell was placed on the restricted list Friday, Andersen Pickard of MLBDailyDish.com reports.A reason for the transaction wasn't given, though Pickard notes that players who elect to opt out of the season are placed on that list. Mundell isn't high on the Colorado Rockies' depth chart and has yet to make his big-league debut, though he did hit a strong .333/.399/.521 at Triple-A Albuquerque last season.

Rockies' Brian Mundell: Invited to summer camp
Brian Mundell will be a part of the Colorado Rockies' 60-man summer camp. The 26-year-old R/R first baseman was left unprotected and unselected in the Rule 5 draft this past winter. He has always shown excellent bat-to-ball skill, which has led to high batting averages at the hitter-friendly conditions of the majority of the Rockies' minor-league affiliates, but he lacks the plus power typically found in quality first base prospects. Mundell hit .333/.399/.521 with 11 home runs in 110 games in the Pacific Coast League last year and should provide depth at first base and designated hitter in this shortened season.

Rockies' Brian Mundell: Raking in Triple-A
Brian Mundell is slashing .373/.440/.592 with five home runs and 27 RBI for Triple-A Albuquerque through 142 at-bats.Mundell has been on a season-long tear at the dish for the Isotopes despite a brief stint on the injured list, and he was especially hot last week, going 11-for-22 with a double, a triple and a home run. The .373 average and .440 on-base percentage both lead the Pacific Coast League. It's been a big step forward offensively for the 25-year-old, who had a pedestrian .263/.345/.372 slash line over 441 at-bats for Double-A Hartford last season.

Rockies' Brian Mundell: Earns spring invite
Brian Mundell has been invited to the Colorado Rockies' major-league camp this spring.Mundell continued to make strides in 2017, earning a midseason promotion to Double-A Hartford after hitting .299/.379/.504 with 12 homers in 67 games for High-A Lancaster. Despite the tougher competition, Mundell was able to hit .302/.394/.424 in 52 games for the Yard Goats. The soon-to-be 24-year-old will likely open the season in the upper minors, though he could see the majors at some point in 2018 if he continues to impress with his bat.

Rockies' Brian Mundell: Climbing the ranks
Brian Mundell, 23, is batting .291/.388/.406 with three home runs and 16 RBI in 50 games since being promoted to Double-A Hartford. The reigning South Atlantic Player of the Year has not had quite the same season in 2017, though he has still shown a superior handle of the strike zone. Mundell has almost as many walks (25) as strikeouts (26) since the promotion. His power has taken a bit of nosedive of late, though playing his future games at Coors Field should be a fine remedy for any perceived sapping of power. Mundell is still flying under the radar, but he could see the big leagues as early as next season.
